KENOSHA, Wis. — A 20-year-old Kenosha man died Tuesday afternoon following a crash involving a box truck and a minibike near the intersection of 60th Street and 13th Avenue, according to the Kenosha Police Department.
Initial dispatch traffic indicated that a child had been struck by a vehicle, with radio transmissions reporting a “vehicle versus child” crash and stating that the victim was lying face down in the roadway. Based on the information broadcast over emergency radio channels at the time, Kenosha County Eye and Scanner Watch of Kenosha County reported that a child was involved.

Police later determined that the victim was not a child, but a 20-year-old Kenosha man operating a small, non-street-legal minibike.
The crash was reported at approximately 12:16 p.m. Officers arrived and found the injured rider in the roadway. Police and fire personnel immediately began rendering aid before the man was transported to a local hospital. He later died from injuries sustained in the crash.

According to investigators, the minibike was traveling westbound on 60th Street. At the same time, a box truck was also traveling westbound on 60th Street and began making a northbound turn onto 13th Avenue. The minibike then collided with the truck.
Because dispatchers and responding personnel initially believed a child had been struck, Flight For Life was requested and a landing zone was established at Brass Community School. The Major Crash Assistance Team (MCAT) was also requested to the scene. Flight For Life was ultimately unable to respond due to weather conditions.
The driver of the box truck remained at the scene and has been cooperative with investigators, police said.
The Major Crash Assistance Team continues to investigate the fatal crash. No additional information about the deceased has been released.

Don’t pass on the right
These small nonstreet legal mini bikes are always running up and down the streets driving like complete idiots in my area right in front of the police with nothing ever being done. Maybe start doing some traffic enforcement and then you don’t have to worry about scraping them off the pavement.
Feel for the box truck driver, just trying to do a days work and someone doing something illegal dies at his hands. Rules are for a reason, you aren’t special. And that special feeling didn’t work out for him too well, …or anyone.
I’m not surprised. Kenosha has ignored the mini bike, Electric Scooter/Bike Craze for long enough. Better get a handle on this now before we are reading a story like this every week. They are out of control . Parents are buying these for their kids and letting them ride wherever they want. and every moron that has lost his license to drive just buys a electric bike and continues to drive like a idiot. Here’s an Idea Kenosha Common Council … maybe this should be a topic of discussion at your next meeting. We need Rules and laws/regulations on these and we need the KPD to enforce them.
Any motorized vehicle on the road should be street legal, registered and only operated by a licensed drivers(including scooters & ebikes). In the event of an accident, unauthorized vehicles/drivers are automatically at fault regardless of excuse……….just like driving impaired. On a side note, bicycles should also obey traffic law while in the roadway. How many bicyclists wear a helmet for “safety” while blowing through a stop sign?
Kenosha police need to focus on traffic enforcement in general. Way too many reckless drivers.
How sad 🤣
