KENOSHA, Wis. — Kenosha Unified School District quietly reassigned former Indian Trail High School and Academy Assistant Principal Mercilie Toney to Bradford High School following an investigation into allegations that she sought French credit for her son in a class he was not enrolled in, Kenosha County Eye has learned.
Toney is now listed on Bradford High School’s staff roster as an assistant principal.

Kenosha County Eye previously reported that Superintendent Jeffrey Weiss said allegations against Toney were investigated and deemed “unsubstantiated.” However, records released by the district did not include any final findings, investigative conclusion, or explanation showing how KUSD reached that determination.
The records did show that a French teacher told investigators that he felt Toney, who was his supervisor, was asking him to “do her son a favor” by helping her son obtain French credit for a semester in which he was not enrolled.
Although KUSD returned Toney to work, district insiders tell Kenosha County Eye that the reassignment was made because Toney had lost the trust of teachers at Indian Trail following the investigation.
Kenosha County Eye asked Weiss whether Toney’s move to Bradford was related to the environment created at Indian Trail, the teacher’s statement to investigators, and whether trust had been lost among staff.
Kenosha County Eye also asked Weiss if Toney was moved for another reason.
Weiss did not respond.

Indian Trail Principal Scott Kennow spoke with Kenosha County Eye about concerns surrounding the situation.
“I understand that there’s distrust in the community as a person who lives in the community,” Kennow said.
“I can only control the parts that I have control over,” Kennow added.
Kennow’s comments appeared to indicate that decisions regarding Toney’s discipline, reassignment, and continued employment were handled outside of his authority.
Toney’s reassignment comes after KUSD placed her on administrative leave effective April 29, 2026. The district later reinstated her after concluding the allegations were unsubstantiated.
Kenosha County Eye continues to seek additional records explaining how the district reached that conclusion. The records released so far do not include a final report, findings of fact, or any written explanation showing why KUSD cleared Toney.

Likely in the Wisconsin Retirement System pension plan which is a very nice benefit so it would be interesting if termination would have a large impact on retirement bennies.
Don’t know about KUSD but often item time banking vacation time and maybe even overtime can be valuable……..would be interesting.
If you are terminated you lose any of your employer contributions. That’s why cops and teachers retire when facing termination. That avoids loss of pension money.
