TWIN LAKES, Wis. — Firefighters from across Kenosha County and northern Illinois responded to a Twin Lakes home Friday after a fire broke out in a second-story bedroom closet.
Twin Lakes Fire/Rescue was dispatched at about 11:34 a.m. Friday, Aug. 28, to the 2100 block of Park Lane after a report of smoke coming from the roof of a garage. Firefighters from Randall, Wheatland and Richmond, Illinois, were also initially dispatched through the Automatic Response Area system.
When Twin Lakes firefighters arrived, they saw smoke coming from the eaves of the second-story roof. Engine 6512 deployed a handline and firefighters began an interior attack. Nine minutes after the initial dispatch, officials activated MABAS Box 65-01, bringing additional departments and equipment to the scene.
The response came while Twin Lakes Rescue was already handling a separate medical emergency. At about 11:42 a.m., another medical call came in. A Paris Fire/Rescue ambulance, which was heading to Twin Lakes to provide coverage, instead responded to that emergency.
Investigators believe the fire started in a second-story bedroom closet. Firefighters had the blaze extinguished by 12:14 p.m. and remained at the home searching for hidden fire, hot spots and embers. Crews cleared the scene at about 2:03 p.m.
The response ultimately involved numerous departments from Wisconsin and Illinois, including Salem Lakes, Bristol, Bloomfield, Burlington, Pleasant Prairie, Kenosha, Hebron, Wonder Lake and Spring Grove. Other departments provided station coverage while local resources were tied up at the fire.
Afterward, the homeowner received a “Go Bag” from the Wagner Family Fire Fund valued at more than $1,000. The assistance includes a hotel voucher, restaurant food vouchers, socks and essential toiletries to help the family immediately following the fire.
