LEASANT PRAIRIE, Wis. — Jan E. Herman, 43, of Pleasant Prairie, was taken into custody Wednesday after Kenosha County Circuit Court Judge Jodi L. Meier rejected a joint sentencing recommendation that would have spared the former Prairie Lane Elementary School PTO president from serving jail time and instead sentenced her to 27 months behind bars for stealing money entrusted to her for children, teachers and school activities.

Herman was originally charged with six felonies, including theft in a business setting involving more than $10,000 and five counts of unauthorized use of an entity’s identifying information. Assistant District Attorney Vince Kurta agreed to amend those charges to three misdemeanor theft counts after Herman paid restitution in full. Herman pleaded guilty to all three Wednesday, and Meier immediately found her guilty.

Meier is just pissed she’s prettier than her. What a joke. Enwright got less time. White collar crimes with white collar consequences, I hope she appeals
It is wild Enwright got a lighter sentence. Everything about the court system doesnt make sense
Let’s assume that all criminals are not sentenced to “enough time in jail”.
And that Enright did get a lesser sentence.
Isn’t part of correcting those discrepancies done by increasing sentences for crimes like this ?
Now next time a “school criminal” is caught and sentenced the next judge will look to this case and realize that anything that affects children can be sentenced above or below this standard.

Completely agree! First of all two different judges in two different cases. Not all judges are “equal”. We see that daily around the country with liberal judges literally being political activists from the bench. THAT is disgraceful and disgusting!
As far as Christian Enwright is concerned he plead guilty to misdemeanors because the State of Wisconsin had NO Grooming laws (what?!). Let’s hope they now have laws on the books protecting children.
Both judges in this case and the Enwright case are what I believe to be more conservative judges, hence sentences that fit the cases.
Thank you to both Judge Jodie Meier and Gerard Dougvillo for doing what you can with the laws that apply to keep people like this in jail rather than a slap on the wrist that proves as little consequence for these reprehensible criminals.

The stupidity of this comment is what is concerning these days! Enwright was charged with misdemeanors due to the lack of laws in Wisconsin on grooming. That judge (different from Meier) gave Enwright actual jail time whereas most expected he wouldn’t get such.
This woman stole a significant amount of cash from a school over time— and you think she shouldn’t have gotten this time in Jail??! Maybe do some actual research and stop with the name calling—-Blindsheep is the perfect name for you!!!

Meier is a shitty fucking judge. They all are in Kenosha. They do not realize that a sentence like this doesn’t make them look tougher……it actually makes their everyday light sentences on violent crimes look even worse.

27 months is harsh because she paid restitution? She absolutely should have paid it. And it shouldn’t have just been done because she thought she was gonna get off with no time. She deserves to sit. She stole money from kids, from her own kids school, so she could live the lifestyle she wanted. She wasn’t buying food for the homeless, she wasn’t using it for meds who couldn’t afford it. She was using it for her own personal gain. She walked into court thinking she would walk out and go back to her life. She already got lucky having her felony dropped to misdemeanors. The judges need to be harsher with all their sentencing. Maybe people would stop breaking the law. But this trash absolutely didn’t deserve a lighter sentence.
I didn’t say she deserved a light sentence. However, she sure as fuck didn’t deserve 27 months in the grand hierarchy of sentencing considering these same judges give half or no time to 98 percent of those who commit worse crimes.
Let’s be honest, if she had just been black and robbed the school with a gun in the middle of the day then she probably would have been given less time by these judges.

I think your mad about the wrong thing. Instead of being mad that she was actually held accountable, be mad that other crimes go without more severe punishment. Mad that people get punished. Mad that people don’t get punished. You can’t have it both ways. 27 months is exactly what she deserved. Now if the judges could finally sentence other crimes to what they deserve maybe more people would stop breaking the law.

It makes sense in that she had plenty of money to make restitution, so her theft was not a desperate single act to harbor financial ruin or provide for her children. She stole because she could, and without concern for those she stole from. To me, that displays arrogance above desperation.

She shouldn’t have been stealing from kids for personal gain, if she could afford to pay the restitution then the money should have never been touched. Do i believe 27 months is harsh kind of but at the same time she also had 6 felonies dropped to misdemeanors which also helps her in the end for trying to get work in the future anywhere else.

People who steal money typically don’t have money to pay back. Maybe she got it from her parents ? Or the forced sale of her house. Or the same parents who are letting her live in their basement.

Jackie Heidt only got 18 months for having sex with a inmate and smuggling contraband into a correctional institution.
This is completely ridicules! A mother of young children that makes a mistake that pays all the money back and apologies for the mistake gets a Mager jail time. Meanwell all the time spent volunteering at a school and all the amazing thinning and self-sacrifices she made just dismissed! She has no record other then being a great part of the community and working for all the families in the area to make their school and community Beter. This sentence is shocking for such a miner amount when you think about the large thefts that have resulted in no jail time. How many people have accidently used a company card for personal use. The prosecutor agreed to a 2-year probation and that would be the correct sentencing. The jail time doesn’t meet the crime. I’m so sorry for her family! The judge should be ashamed.
Ok. Sure. She picked the wrong card out of her wallet at some store. You fix that by writing a check and attaching it to the receipt at the next meeting.

What you don’t do is load the “Company Debit Card” on to your “Personal” Amazon account and charge over $24,000. for things that obviously had nothing to do with the PTO.
I think some investigating needs to happen at the Prairie Lane PTO organization as to why there wasn’t someone watching the charges come in over however many months this was. The story said she was caught and promised to pay it back.
Were there more charges after it was noticed ? Is there a treasurer there ? Or is she it ?
These “Volunteer Organizations” that raise tens of thousands of dollars and have monthly meetings seem to be stupid in not realizing that these lost souls are out there.
If jail time doesn’t become attached to people like this and public stories and the ridicule that comes after doesn’t happen, then where is the deterrent for the next bored mom sitting at home with a blank check that doesn’t belong to her ?

This is as much your fault as it is hers.
Jail time is as it should be, a deterrent to others. If all of this fallout doesn’t happen then these organizations will die because nobody will trust that their money is going where it should.
That is the real crime here. The loss of trust in an otherwise exemplary group of people that have nothing but what’s good for their children at heart.
Look into yourselves as to why this was allowed to spiral so far out of control. Fix yourselves or close up shop. Because without change, the way you let this happen only allows others to do it again
Be so for real. You don’t get to steal from kids, from her OWN KIDS school, and say just because she paid it back it should be ok. How about don’t steal money that isn’t yours? Don’t steal from kids? There’s also a fundraiser that she was Involved in that the family never got anything from for a child with cancer. Anyone who steals from kids to maintain their own lifestyle is not a good person. Maybe she should have self sacrificed what she was spending the PTO money on. Instead of the kids having to go without. She paid back over 20k. But they believed it was more. And even 20k you think is minor? IT WAS FROM CHILDREN. There really is nothing that would negate that to say she’s not trash. Do people get away with stealing more? Sure, but they should be sitting too. It shouldn’t mean that this situation shouldn’t get time.
Plus, she didn’t pay it back because she felt bad. She paid it back so that she could get a sweetheart deal that let her go with no time served. Wow. What accountability. She deserves to sit. She deserves to be held accountable for her actions. She should be thankful that she got a felony dropped and she’s sitting for only 3 misdemeanors. The only person that should be ashamed is HER. Instead of living her best life at bars and on vacations while this court case was going on. Maybe had she showed some actual remorse the judge wouldn’t have given her so much time.

Seems like PTO Barbie got a pretty harsh sentence when compared to many with comparable or worse crimes. If this becomes a trend for our judiciary maybe we can get some of these 3 and 4 time DUI’s off the roads but I doubt it.
Not a fan of judge Meirer’s sentences but this one seems ok. From what I have heard doing long sentences in the county jail is worse than going to state prison, plus if she went to Taycheda she would have had a choice of girlfriends.
In 27mos her roots will grow out and no one will recognize her .
