KENOSHA, Wis. — The City of Kenosha and the Kenosha Parks Alliance will host the free “Time to Fly Kite Fest” on Saturday, Sept. 26, at Lincoln Park, 6900 18th Ave., following a community clean-up earlier that morning.
The community clean-up begins at 10 a.m. Participants should meet near the Oribiletti Center on Martin Luther King Drive, where trash bags and gloves will be available. The kite festival will follow from 11:30 a.m. to 2 p.m.
The festival will feature professional kite-flying demonstrations, children’s games and activities, contests and a free picnic lunch. Gift of Wings of Milwaukee will provide kite entertainment, including professional flyers performing coordinated stunt-kite routines set to music. The Lincoln Park event is described as a smaller version of the city’s two-day “Outta Sight Kite Flight” held at Kennedy Park in June.
Free Kites And Kids Mad Dash
The Mary Lou and Arthur F. Mahone Foundation will provide free kites to children who sign up for the “Kids Mad Dash” at 12:45 p.m. During the event, participants will attempt to launch their kites at the same time.
Visitors may also bring their own kites or obtain one at the festival to participate in other kite-flying contests for prizes.
The Kenosha Kingfish will provide a free lunch beginning at 11:30 a.m. at the concession pavilion near 18th Avenue. Community organizations will also offer information and activities throughout the event.
New this year will be a kite-themed art project presented by Lemon Street Gallery and sponsored by Zeigler Hyundai. The festival caps a series of special summer and fall activities overseen by the Kenosha Parks Alliance.
