KENOSHA, Wis. — The Kenosha Water Utility discharged diluted wastewater into the storm sewer system and ultimately Lake Michigan over the weekend after more than 4.5 inches of rain overwhelmed portions of the city’s sanitary sewer system. Utility officials said the bypasses were necessary to help prevent sewage backups and property damage to homes.
The first bypass began at about 5:30 a.m. Saturday, Sept. 19, and ended about 30 minutes later. Additional bypasses began around 6 a.m. Sunday, Sept. 20, and continued until about 9 p.m. that evening.
According to the Kenosha Water Utility, the city received 4.52 inches of rain during a 48-hour period. The ground was already saturated from rainfall earlier in the week, contributing to excessive flows entering the sanitary sewer collection system.
Several Bypass Locations
Saturday’s bypass occurred at 67th Street and 57th Avenue.
On Sunday, bypasses occurred at 67th Street and 57th Avenue, 89th Place and 17th Avenue, 81st Street and 25th Avenue, Fifth Avenue and 43rd Street, the 5100 block of Sheridan Road, and an overflow structure northeast of Third Avenue and 68th Street.
The Water Utility said all of the bypasses were reported to the Wisconsin Department of Natural Resources.
Residents with questions can contact the Kenosha Water Utility at 262-653-4300.

That’s pretty good for the amount of rain we got, looks like that holding tank on 80th and Sheridan is earning its keep 👍🏼
I hope all the folks that fish Lake Michigan do catch and release.
With all the price increases and holes at every corner you would think they had better ways to control large amounts of water.
But fine the shit(no pun intended) out of the farmers with some manure runoff. got it.
Pump it towards the data centers.
CONGRATS on showing your complete and total ignorance on how data centers work. They use CLOSED LOOPED water systems so they want be using the RAW SEWAGE that was dumped into the lake.
You and your ilk are SOOOOO uniformed about how DC’s work.
Interesting to see the anti-data center morons nowhere to be found when they claim to be so concerned about the “pollution” data centers supposedly create, when ACTUAL water pollution is happening.
TENS of BILLIONS of RAW SEWAGE has been dumped into Lake Michigan by Milwaukee, Racine and Kenosha in the past week, yet no self-proclaimed “environmentalists” are screaming about it.
Proving, yet again, they are all hypocrites and extremely ignorant.
