BRISTOL, Wis. — A 46-year-old Illinois woman was killed early Tuesday morning after authorities say a 19-year-old Genoa City man crossed the centerline on Wilmot Road, sideswiped one vehicle and then crashed head-on into the woman’s car.
Kenosha County Sheriff’s deputies and Bristol and Prairie fire personnel were dispatched to the three-vehicle crash in the 21200 block of County Highway C, also known as Wilmot Road, at about 5:21 a.m. Tuesday, Sept. 22.
According to the Kenosha County Sheriff’s Office, the 19-year-old was driving a Chevrolet HHR eastbound when investigators believe he crossed the centerline and sideswiped a westbound vehicle. The HHR then collided head-on with a westbound Chevrolet Impala driven by the 46-year-old Ingleside, Illinois, woman.
Both drivers involved in the head-on crash were trapped and had to be extricated by rescue personnel. The woman was pronounced dead at the scene. The 19-year-old was transported to an area hospital with serious injuries and is cooperating with investigators.
The driver of the vehicle that was initially sideswiped was not injured and gave investigators a witness statement.
The joint-agency Major Crash Assistance Team responded to investigate, along with the Kenosha County Medical Examiner’s Office. The woman’s identity has not yet been released pending notification of her family.
“Our hearts go out to the family and loved ones of the woman who lost her life in this tragic crash,” Kenosha County Sheriff David Zoerner said. He thanked the deputies, firefighters and rescue personnel who responded and said investigators are working to determine the circumstances surrounding the crash.
Wilmot Road reopened at about 10 a.m. The crash remains under investigation.
