KENOSHA, Wis. — Tremper High School was briefly placed in a secure Tuesday morning after school officials were told a student had shown what appeared to be a weapon to other students in the parking lot before third period.
According to a message sent to Tremper families, students and staff by Principal Mr. Knecht, school officials immediately began an investigation with the Kenosha Police Department after learning about the incident.
The item was later located and determined to be a cap gun.
School officials said the student involved has been identified and appropriate disciplinary action will be taken. Officials said they do not believe students or staff are in danger.
“We understand that situations like this can cause concern for our students, families and staff,” Knecht wrote. “Please know that student and staff safety remains our top priority.”
The school encouraged students to report anything concerning that they see or hear, including through Wisconsin’s anonymous Speak Up, Speak Out reporting system.
The secure was brief and was lifted after officials determined the item was not an actual firearm.
