KENOSHA, Wis. — Kenosha Unified School District warned families Friday that individuals from outside the school community have reportedly threatened to harm a specific group of Indian Trail High School and Academy students. The district said the concerns have contributed to fights within the community and prompted increased police presence at Indian Trail during the school day and at tonight’s football game against Tremper.
In a notice sent through ParentSquare at 11:50 a.m. October 9, KUSD alerted the Indian Trail, Mahone and Tremper school communities to the safety concern. Mahone families were notified because of the school’s proximity to Indian Trail, while Tremper families received the warning because the football game is being played at Tremper’s Ameche Field.
“We have received reports that individuals from outside our school community have threatened to harm an isolated group of Indian Trail students,” the district wrote. The notice did not identify the individuals allegedly making the threats or the students being targeted. It also did not describe the nature of the threats, explain when they were made, or provide details about the fights.
KUSD said it is working with the Kenosha Police Department and taking precautionary steps to protect students, staff and community members. Families were told to expect additional police at Indian Trail during the school day and at Tremper for the evening game.
The district acknowledged that seeing additional squad cars could concern families and said it wanted to explain the increased presence. The notice did not announce a cancellation or postponement of the football game.
“We will continue working closely with law enforcement to help maintain a safe environment for everyone,” KUSD wrote.
