KENOSHA, Wis. — The City of Kenosha topped Kenosha County in a friendly food drive tied to last week’s five-game Cubs–Brewers series, collecting 2,783 pounds of nonperishable food for the Shalom Center, compared with the county’s 1,927 pounds donated to The Sharing Center in Trevor.

The wager—sparked by Cubs-fan Mayor David Bogdala and Brewers-backing County Executive Samantha Kerkman—ended with Kerkman honoring the terms and wearing a Chicago Cubs jersey, on loan from Kenosha Police Chief Patrick Patton, during a meeting with Bogdala.

“This was a win-win for our community,” Bogdala said. “Even though I’m thrilled the Cubs — and the city — came out ahead, the real victory is in the thousands of pounds of food that will help our local food pantries serve those in need.” He credited employees across city departments—including Police, Fire, Municipal Building staff, alderpersons, Kenosha Area Transit, the Kenosha Public Library, Parks, and the Kenosha Public Museum—for pushing the effort over the top.

Kerkman applauded county employees for stepping up. “While I’m still behind my Brewers in this year’s pennant race, putting on a Cubs jersey is a small price to pay for collecting nearly 5,000 pounds of food for our local pantries. Together, we hit a home run with this fun rivalry, and I look forward to the next big game,” she said.

Local pantry leaders said the donations arrived at a crucial time. Shalom Center Executive Director Esther Roberts said the city’s contribution will have an “immediate and meaningful impact” as more families struggle to put meals on the table. The Sharing Center’s Executive Director Sharon Pomaville called it “teamwork in motion,” noting needs often rise heading into the holiday season.
City donations were delivered and weighed Monday at the Shalom Center; county donations went to The Sharing Center in Trevor.

Check out the lines at the shalom center when they give it out. All brand new cars with Illinois plates. Its basically all for nothing. Maybe a few families in need actually get something. Its a shame really….
Nice woke picture at top of do gooders seeking praise for doing nothing as usual. Great photo op for the two who love having their picture taken.
