KENOSHA, Wis. — A Kenosha man was left with stitches to his mouth and a possible fractured rib after an alleged domestic dispute escalated into a physical assault involving his wife and her boyfriend, according to newly filed criminal complaints.

Marcus Dupre Johnson, 39, of Kenosha, was charged Monday with felony substantial battery and three counts of misdemeanor bail jumping. Johnson was in court and formally charged today, where a court commissioner set a $2,000 cash bail. He is due back in court on Dec. 23 for a preliminary hearing, court records show.

Veronica M. Bailey, 35, of Kenosha, was also charged and appeared in court today. Bailey is charged with disorderly conduct as an act of domestic abuse. Her bail conditions were not available at the time of publication.

According to the criminal complaints, Kenosha police were called to a residence in the city on the evening of Dec. 13 after the victim reported he had been “jumped” and required medical attention. Officers found the man with a laceration to his upper lip that was bleeding, along with abrasions on his arms.

The man told police he is married to Bailey and that the two had argued earlier in the day over allegations she was communicating with other men. He reported that later that evening, Bailey returned to the residence with Johnson, identified as her boyfriend. An argument ensued outside the home, and the situation quickly turned physical.

Investigators allege Johnson rushed the victim, grabbed him around the torso and arms, and knocked him to the ground on icy pavement. While the man was on his back, Johnson allegedly stood over him and punched him in the face multiple times with a closed fist. The victim told police he was struck three to four times.

The man was transported to Froedtert South Hospital, where he received stitches to his mouth. Medical imaging indicated a likely fracture to his ninth rib on the left side, according to the complaint.

Bailey is separately accused of earlier attacking her husband during the same day by kicking him from behind during a domestic argument, conduct that forms the basis of the domestic abuse disorderly conduct charge.

Court records show Johnson was already out on bond in multiple prior cases at the time of the alleged assault, leading prosecutors to file three additional bail jumping counts. The felony substantial battery charge carries a maximum penalty of three years and six months in prison, while each misdemeanor bail jumping count carries up to nine months in jail. Combined, Johnson faces up to six years and three months in prison if convicted on all counts.
