Kenosha, Wis. — The sentencing of former Kenosha Unified School District teacher Christian J. Enwright has been delayed once again—this time because his wife went into labor with their twins.

Enwright, who pleaded guilty in April to 15 counts of disorderly conduct in connection with a months-long grooming campaign targeting a 13-year-old student, was scheduled to be sentenced on June 5. But on June 3, his attorney Jason Luczak submitted a letter to Judge Gerad Dougvillo requesting a delay, citing the birth of Enwright’s children. Judge Dougvillo granted the adjournment against the DA’s objection.

Enwright will now be sentenced on Tuesday, July 2 at 11 a.m. in Kenosha County Circuit Court.

This is the second time sentencing has been postponed. The original hearing was scheduled for May 16 but was rescheduled to June 5 due to a scheduling conflict with the court.

Community Reaction: “Why the Special Treatment?”

The repeated delays have sparked anger from several Kenosha County residents, who believe Enwright is being given preferential treatment.

“He should never get to see a child again, much less his own,” said one local mother.

A Kenosha man told Kenosha County Eye, “That’s definitely the risk you take when you prey on the children your own community has entrusted you with to teach and protect.”

Enwright, 30, was fired from KTEC West Middle School in 2024 after school officials and police uncovered an extensive series of Snapchat messages exchanged between him and a 13-year-old student—referred to in KCE reporting as Holly. The messages included late-night chats, compliments on her body, sexually suggestive emojis, and statements like “In another universe, we would be together.”

Prosecutor Seeking Jail and Supervised Release

Kenosha County District Attorney Xavier Solis has stated that he will ask Judge Dougvillo to sentence Enwright to one year in jail followed by three years of probation, with conditions including no contact with the victim, her family, or any minors. The Department of Corrections will determine whether Enwright may have supervised contact with his own children.

Although disorderly conduct is a misdemeanor offense, Solis has emphasized the frequency and nature of the communications, which prosecutors say amounted to a pattern of calculated manipulation.

Legal Perspective: Delay Within Norms

While public frustration is growing, some legal professionals say the delay is not unusual under the circumstances.

“My understanding is that this defendant was convicted of multiple disorderly conduct charges. Disorderly conduct, or ‘DC,’ is a class B misdemeanor,” said local criminal defense attorney and author Michael Cicchini.

“I don’t think this defendant has ever missed court. And this case is only about one year old, which is very young for a criminal case. The defense has a legitimate reason for the adjournment, and the judge’s decision is very reasonable,” Cicchini said.

“When you look at the flipside of this situation, prosecutors frequently ask for and get continuances when defendants are out of custody. Judges shouldn’t have a double standard for defendants. The adjournment probably should have been granted, and it was granted.”

Background: Grooming and OWI Convictions

Enwright was charged in May 2024 with 22 counts of disorderly conduct, all tied to messages and images he sent Holly over an eight-month span while he was her teacher. He pleaded guilty to 15 of the charges in April 2025; the other seven were dismissed but read in.

In addition to the grooming case, Enwright was convicted in 2024 of Operating While Intoxicated (OWI) in Racine County after he was stopped for speeding and running a red light. He registered a blood alcohol content of .11 and was fined and had his license revoked for six months.

Despite the severity of the allegations, the Wisconsin Department of Public Instruction allowed Enwright to surrender his teaching license voluntarily, avoiding a formal revocation—a move that drew criticism from parents and victims’ advocates.

What’s Next

Enwright remains out of custody and on bond. At sentencing, Judge Dougvillo will hear statements from the victim, her family, attorneys, and any members of the public who submit written comments by July 1.

The maximum possible sentence is 15 months in jail and $15,000 in fines. Solis has asked the court to impose the full year of jail time permitted by law, followed by strict supervision.

After more than a year of investigations, hearings, and mounting outrage, Kenosha County residents now look to July 2 as the next—and hopefully final—date for accountability.
