KENOSHA, Wis. – A 35-year-old Kenosha man with an extensive history of criminal convictions appeared in court Thursday, where he was charged with disorderly conduct and misdemeanor battery after allegedly assaulting his cousin earlier this week.

Prosecutors said Jaime Salazar Jr. struck his cousin multiple times on August 18 at a home on 67th Street. The victim told police Salazar punched him twice in the face and once in the ribs, leaving him spitting blood from a cut inside his mouth. Officers later located Salazar, who admitted being involved but claimed he only “muffed” his cousin and did not intend to cause injury.
Salazar was charged as a repeater, which increases his potential sentence exposure by up to two additional years on each count. The top charge, misdemeanor battery as a repeater, carries a maximum of up to two years in jail and a $10,000 fine.
Assistant District Attorney Toni Young highlighted Salazar’s lengthy record, which includes convictions stretching back nearly two decades: a 2006 Racine case for battery by a prisoner; multiple obstructing, theft, and drug possession charges; several felon-in-possession convictions; and a 2019 felony battery and disorderly conduct case. Salazar’s most recent felony conviction came in 2020 for being a felon in possession of a firearm.
“Given the defendant’s history and his repeated contacts with the criminal justice system, some cash bail is necessary,” Young told the court, recommending $500 bail to ensure Salazar’s appearance.
Defense attorney countered that Salazar has strong community ties, noting he is enrolled at Gateway Technical College in cosmetology and barbering, works full-time at Saputo, and supports his two children who live with him. The attorney emphasized that Salazar is already on extended supervision until at least 2029 and currently on a hold following his release from prison. Salazar was released from prison just eight months ago, in December 2024. “He isn’t going anywhere,” the defense told the court.
Court Commissioner William Michel II set bail at $500 cash. Salazar’s probation agent, Julia Starr, has a reputation for being lenient, and sources indicate she is unlikely to seek revocation of his supervision, meaning Salazar could be released back into the community despite his lengthy record.
He is scheduled to return to court for further proceedings in the coming weeks.

So much to be said on this page but I will say this. Everyone reaps what they sow at some point in their lives – even my brother. As for all of those who comment negatively about him please be sure to look at the reflection of your own life and determine who you portray yourself to be in society and in person. There are neglected children all around us and it can be in many forms. I see children on screens more than with their moms or dads, I see children without good clothes on their backs and only dirty garments to wear. I see children without a Father (as such) and it breaks the very essence of their entire childhood, But let me say another thing; instead of berating those who are continuously breaking the rule of law, how about pray for them? Endeavor to help others that actually try. Create a playbook of rules, standard and things you value more than anything else in this world. Men like Mr. Salazar need an advocate and one that will always have compassion. When you have a man or woman that is dealing with substance abuse etc. OF COURSE they will not be their for their children . It is part of their way of life not to be but it does NOT alienate them from actually loving the children or thinking about how they can make a better impact. They definitely do need to change but sometimes they need a little push or a big shove because there is at least one person in these comments that I have done that too and she knows who it is. Anyway let’s just remember who we are and take self notes about the evaluation of our own lives before casting and extreme damning judgement on someone else. I caution everyone to tread lightly when listening to others opinions before actually validating the facts.
This man has tried to be there for his children but is blocked in many ways and just can’t at this time because there is a young lady that I can’t call a woman’s to lack of care that kicks him when he’s down and doesn’t give him a winning chance only when it’s convenient. He lacks the resources and discipline it takes to be a Father and even a companion but I pray that he gets well and defeats the enemy.
