KENOSHA COUNTY, Wis. — Residents impacted by recent flooding along the Fox River and other parts of Kenosha County now have additional time to ensure their drinking water is safe, as county health officials have extended free well-testing services through May 8.
Kenosha County Public Health is urging homeowners with private wells in flood-affected areas to take advantage of the program, warning that floodwaters can contaminate groundwater supplies and pose potential health risks if not properly tested and treated.
Free test kits are available for pickup during regular business hours at multiple locations across the county, including government offices and village halls in Bristol, Paddock Lake, Pleasant Prairie, Salem Lakes, Somers, Twin Lakes, Wheatland, and Randall. The Kenosha County Center at highways 45 and 50 in Bristol is also distributing kits.
Health officials say the extension is meant to give residents more time to assess potential contamination following recent high water levels, particularly in areas near the Fox River where flooding was most severe.
In addition to testing, the county is also providing guidance on how to properly sanitize wells and maintain safe drinking water. Resources related to well testing, sanitization, and broader flood preparedness are available through the county’s public health channels.
Officials emphasize that even if floodwaters have receded, contamination risks can remain, making testing a critical step for homeowners relying on private wells.
