PLEASANT PRAIRIE, Wis. — A Pleasant Prairie woman is facing criminal charges after investigators say she arranged for her husband’s dog to be euthanized without permission, then lied about how the animal died in an apparent effort to cover it up. Her husband filed for divorce a couple of weeks ago. Atwood was also arrested on Halloween by the Pleasant Prairie Police Department for battery and disorderly conduct, but the Kenosha County DA's office didn't prosecute the case.

Maura A. Atwood, 32, of Pleasant Prairie, is charged with mistreating animals, a Class A misdemeanor. The charge carries a maximum penalty of up to nine months in jail, a $10,000 fine, or both. She is an instuctor at RG Performing arts Center on 39th Ave in Kenosha.

Even if it were community property, that does not give one party the right to destroy it without the consent of the other party. She killed the dudes dog. That’s a special kind of evil. Dog’s are Man’s best friend and companion and their signals should always be heeded. An excellent example of the failure to do so and its fatal results is portrayed perfectly in the movie “Funny Games” (2007). Her husband should immediately get rid of her.
Hopefully he doesn’t end up paying her “maintenance” in addition to the death of his dog. But then again, in a Kenosha courtroom anything can happen.

This is fucking nuts — I know her, she’s the kindest person the world. The dog was 14 and in terrible pain and her husband had just told her “the best way to lose an animal is for someone else to do it for you so you don’t have to make that decision.” It was also something they talked about all the time because the dogs pain was so bad. She was trying to do the right thing, but she misunderstood what he wanted, and she lied about it afterwards because he had a meltdown and she was scared he was going to hurt her. He called the police during the meltdown and I guess it’s just now becoming a thing legally.
