SALEM LAKES, Wis. — Kenosha County officials and leaders from the United Way of Kenosha County recently celebrated the opening of a new early childhood education feature at Fox River Park aimed at helping young children learn through play.
The new “Born Learning Trail” was unveiled during a May 2 ribbon-cutting ceremony at Area 1 on the south end of the park, alongside the playground. The trail includes interactive stations with signs encouraging parents and caregivers to engage children in educational activities focused on literacy, language development, and social-emotional skills.

County Executive Samantha Kerkman praised the project during the ceremony.
“This is a wonderful addition to our park and to the western Kenosha County community,” Kerkman said. “My thanks go to the United Way for its efforts on this and other Born Learning Trails in the area.”
Other officials participating in the event included County Board Chairman Mark Nordigian, Supervisor Keith Gray, Kenosha County Parks Director Wyatt Moore and United Way of Kenosha County CEO Carolynn Friesch.

International Miss Wisconsin Pre-Teen Rielyn Conner, of Twin Lakes, also attended the ceremony and read books to children before the ribbon cutting began.
According to organizers, the Born Learning Trail is designed to help caregivers turn everyday moments into educational opportunities for children by encouraging movement, conversation, imagination, and hands-on learning.
The United Way has previously installed similar trails at Columbus Park and the Kenosha Unified School District Chavez Learning Station. Another trail is expected to be installed this summer at Horizon Park.
Fox River Park is located on Highway F (Silver Lake Road), just east of Highway W in the Village of Salem Lakes.
