Another inmate at a Racine prison has died, according to a Department of Corrections spokesman. John Beard, Director of Communications for Wisconsin DOC told KCE this morning that an inmate died, but said the cause of death would be determined by the local medical examiner.
Investigating the death is the Racine County Sheriff’s Department. Racine County Sheriff spokesman Lieutenant Michael Luell confirmed that there is an investigation from a death that occurred last night. According to multiple sources close to the prison, the inmate died as a result of a drug overdose.
Racine Correctional Institution Warden Jason Wells has had a slew of scandals over the last years:
In August of 2022 a high-ranking prison employee was charged with 41 felonies for misconduct and an inappropriate relationship with an inmate.
In November of 2022, there was an attempted escape of a convicted murderer that was paroled by Governor Evers.
In December of 2022, another high-ranking prison employee was placed on leave for an alleged improper relationship with an inmate. She was cleared of wrong-doing by the Wi DOC.
In January of this year, another inmate died at the prison.

Does this means they are doing an investigation on themselves?
The prison is ran by the Wisconsin department of corrections. The Racine County Sheriff’s Office is a completely separate entity

What does this mean? Attempt means he didn’t escape. Why would one try to escape if on parole? Please explain!

RCI used to be considered a well managed facility. At least ten years ago.
This Facility has a long practice of intimate relationships with inmates. One such was Alecia Santiago who is a nurse and still allowed to practice in the State of Wisconsin.l
