WILMOT, Wis. – Women looking to make music, form friendships, and enjoy a summer filled with song are invited to join Riverport Chorus’s A Cappella Summer series, kicking off Monday, June 2.
The popular all-female chorus, part of the international Sweet Adelines network, is opening its risers to guests for 13 weeks of musical learning and harmony-building. The series will run through August 25, offering rehearsals, coaching, and performance opportunities for newcomers and veteran singers alike.
“We welcome women of all ages to participate,” said Laurel Peterson, director of Riverport Chorus. “You don’t need to read music or have formal singing experience—just a love of singing. We’ll provide the learning materials.”
Each weekly session will explore the fundamentals of four-part a cappella harmony, with participants joining chorus members in rehearsals. In addition to learning both new selections and old favorites, attendees can expect lessons in stage presence, optional free voice coaching, choreography, quartet mixers, and social gatherings.
One highlight will be the opportunity to audition for solo parts in the group’s upcoming Cabaret Show, set for Sunday, September 21 at the Parkway Chateau in Kenosha. Regular attendees may also be invited to perform patriotic music with the chorus during two Honor Flight receptions on August 3 and 24.
Rehearsals are held Mondays from 7 to 9 p.m. at Wilmot Union High School, 11112 308th Avenue, Wilmot. A special session on June 9 will take place at Grace Church in Burlington and will feature a pre-rehearsal pizza party beginning at 5:30 p.m.
Riverport Chorus recently marked its 60th anniversary in 2024 and was honored as the 2025 Region 3 Sweet Adelines Audience Choice Award Winner. The chorus is always open to new members and guests.
