KENOSHA, Wis. — A Kenosha teenager was formally charged Wednesday with four criminal counts after police say a routine traffic stop led to the discovery of a stolen, loaded handgun and marijuana in his vehicle.

(Kenosha County Sheriff)
Anton C. Cumberland, 18, faces one felony count of possession of a firearm by an adjudicated delinquent, one felony count of theft of a firearm, a misdemeanor charge of carrying a concealed weapon, and a misdemeanor charge of possession of THC.

Cumberland appeared in court Wednesday afternoon. District Attorney Xavier Solis asked for $25,000 cash bail, which was granted by Court Commissioner Alexandra Smathers. A preliminary hearing is scheduled for July 29.
According to the criminal complaint, Kenosha Police Officer Niesen stopped Cumberland’s black Mercedes-Benz on Tuesday near 52nd Street and Sheridan Road due to a missing front license plate. When speaking to Cumberland, the officer reported smelling marijuana. Cumberland admitted he had just smoked at home and gave conflicting accounts about the marijuana’s origin.
During a search of the vehicle, officers located a Springfield XD .45-caliber handgun concealed in the rear center console. The gun was fully loaded and had been reported stolen from a Pleasant Prairie home earlier this month. Cumberland later admitted during an interview that he took the gun from the home of a friend, whose father had reported it stolen on July 4.
Police also found a small quantity of marijuana in the trunk and confirmed Cumberland had a prior juvenile adjudication in Racine County for illegal firearm possession, making it unlawful for him to possess a gun under Wisconsin law.
Cumberland is currently in custody at the Kenosha County Jail pending further court proceedings.
