SALEM LAKES, Wis. — A fiery two-vehicle crash at the intersection of County Roads B and F on Friday evening downed power lines and sent two people to the hospital with minor injuries, authorities said.
Salem Lakes Fire/Rescue was dispatched to the scene around 6:30 p.m. on July 25. When crews arrived, both vehicles were fully engulfed in flames, and a broken utility pole had dropped live electrical wires across the roadway.
Due to the danger posed by the energized wires, firefighters were unable to immediately begin suppressing the fire. Instead, they secured the area and waited for utility crews to render the scene safe.
All occupants had exited their vehicles before emergency responders arrived. Two individuals were evaluated on site and transported to a nearby hospital for treatment of minor injuries.
WE Energies arrived shortly after and de-energized the downed lines, allowing crews to extinguish the remaining fire. Power was restored to the area soon after.
