KENOSHA, Wis. — Just days after an explosive Wilmot School Board meeting where furious parents demanded accountability, a Kenosha County judge took decisive action Monday afternoon that many in the community are calling long overdue.
At a 3 p.m. hearing in Branch 7 Circuit Court, Judge Jodi Meier granted the state’s motion to revoke the no-cash bond for Jason A. Kotarba, the 17-year-old Wilmot man charged with five felony counts of possessing child pornography. Meier replaced the previous signature bond with a $25,000 cash bail and imposed strict new conditions that effectively bar Kotarba from returning to Wilmot High School or being near minors.

Should “common sense” be replacing the statute? I think “common sense” is often used as code for “what I would have done based on the pathetically little that I know about this case.” Wouldn’t $50k had been even more “common sense” than $25k? Why not a nice, even $100k?
