KENOSHA COUNTY, Wis. — Families across Kenosha County are invited to connect with neighbors and local law enforcement during this year’s National Night Out, which will be held from 5 to 7 p.m. Tuesday, Aug. 5, at seven locations countywide.
The free events will feature food, games, music, prizes and interactive demonstrations aimed at strengthening community bonds and public safety partnerships. Each site is organized by different community partners and agencies, with programming tailored to its specific neighborhood.
“National Night Out is a time for neighbors to come together, meet one another, and learn about resources that are available in the community,” said County Executive Samantha Kerkman. “Thank you to all of the community partners who have come together to organize these events.”
One of the largest celebrations is planned for Petzke Park, 2820 14th Ave., where the City of Kenosha will host more than 25 schools and nonprofit organizations offering information and giveaways. Attendees can sign up for a free library card at the Kenosha Public Library’s mobile unit, enjoy free hot dogs, chips, soda, and fresh water from the Kenosha Water Utility’s Traveling Tap.
Entertainment will include family-friendly music from Midwest DJ Productions and a crowd-pleasing K-9 demonstration by the Kenosha Police Department. Children can also enter a drawing to win one of four donated bicycles—two girls’ and two boys’ bikes—courtesy of Kenosha County Circuit Court judges Jason Rossell, Heather Iverson, Chad Kerkman and Angelina Gabriele.
“National Night Out is a fun opportunity for community and police to come together to foster trust, understanding, and collaboration,” said Police Chief Patrick Patton. “It is a welcoming event that reminds us that we are all partners in creating a safer Kenosha.”
The Curtis Strange Elementary School celebration is being coordinated by Kenosha County’s gang intervention program. Other events are planned at First United Methodist Church, the Shalom Center, St. Paul’s Lutheran Church, and the Salvation Army—all within the City of Kenosha—and at the Prairie Springs Park ballfield pavilion in Pleasant Prairie, hosted by the local police and fire departments.
National Night Out is a nationwide event held annually on the first Tuesday of August, designed to promote community cohesion and police-neighborhood relationships in an effort to make neighborhoods safer and more connected.
