KENOSHA, Wis. — A 26-year-old Kenosha man already serving time in the county jail is now facing fresh charges after authorities say he assaulted a fellow inmate inside the Kenosha County Detention Center.

(Kenosha County Sheriff)
Travis R. Lyyski has been charged with battery by prisoners, disorderly conduct, and three counts of violating state or county institution laws. The most serious count, battery by prisoners, is a Class H felony that carries a maximum penalty of six years in prison and a $10,000 fine. Because Lyyski has prior misdemeanor convictions within the last five years, prosecutors have also charged him as a repeater, which could add up to two years to his sentence if convicted.
According to the criminal complaint, deputies were called to the detention center on August 23 after 70-year-old inmate Anthony Rodriguez suffered a head injury. Rodriguez told investigators that while he was waiting in line for his medication, he was struck with a piece of soap that had been thrown across the dorm. He confronted Lyyski, who he believed had thrown it, and asked why. Rodriguez said the last thing he remembered was Lyyski responding, “What are you going to do?” before losing consciousness.
Surveillance footage reviewed by deputies shows Lyyski make a throwing motion, then shove Rodriguez in the shoulder. Rodriguez stepped toward him, and both appeared to swing punches. Rodriguez fell to the ground and later reported dizziness, blurred vision, neck pain, and buzzing in his ears. After Rodriguez collapsed, deputies noted, Lyyski stood by the wall and exchanged a handshake with another inmate.
The jail rule book cited in the complaint shows Lyyski allegedly violated multiple detention center rules, including those prohibiting fighting, disruptive conduct, and violating state statutes. Deputies also confirmed Lyyski has been convicted previously of disorderly conduct, carrying a concealed weapon, and drug possession.
Lyyski appeared in court Wednesday, where he waived his right to a preliminary hearing. Court Commissioner William Michel II set his bail at $500. Lyyski remains in custody and is next due back in court for a pre-trial hearing on October 8.
