Last Thursday, November 7, 2024, Kenosha County lost a “friend of everyone” unexpectedly. Chad Charles Cantwell, 47, of Randall, passed away, leaving behind a voluminous amount of friends, family members and other loved-ones. I was proud to call Chad a friend, although I had only known him for two years. The sadness is mitigated somewhat because I know Chad is now resting comfortably with our Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ. Chad is also with his late Father, Cliff and late dog, Charley.

Chad grew up on his family’s golf course and became one of the best golfers in the County. He ran the Twin Lakes Country Club for many years. He purchased Wilmot Stage Stop several years ago. He was also the founder and president of Salem Lakes Area Business Owners Association (SLABOA). More importantly, Chad was a son, an uncle, a brother, and a companion to his “better half” Ali Marchel, of nearly two decades.

Chad is perhaps know best by his generosity. He gave consistently and without the need for recognition. From donating money to Salem Lakes Fire Department’s baby box, to Junior golf and more. He even offered to give me golf lessons, an offer that I regrettably never took him up on. Chad bought me a 55-in flat screen TV for my birthday. Who does that? Chad does. He said he wanted me to have a better “eye” on Kenosha County.

A celebration of Chad’s life will be held on Wednesday, November 20, 2024, from 2:00PM to 6:00PM, at the Parkway Chateau located at 12304 75th St. Kenosha, WI 53142.

“My dear friend Chad, I can’t even begin to believe he’s gone. I won’t get to see his Cheshire Cat-like smile, hear his crazy (but oftentimes correct) opinions, laugh with him – and at him, talk through challenges to have him tell me he has my back, enjoy a glass of Caymus (the best wine ever, I thank him for introducing me to it), take those golf lessons he was going to teach me, or just be in his presence.

He was someone I could call at any time and he would be there to help, no questions asked. And he would make sure to go above and beyond. He was one of a kind.

Chad helped change Salem Lakes in a positive and lasting way, through his support during my campaign and once I was elected, his generosity to our community with the many donations and time he devoted, and to all those he loved and helped support in so many ways. He started the Salem Lakes Business Owners Association which has helped numerous businesses and brought so many issues to light for the betterment of our community,” said Village President Rita Bucur.

I’ve known Chad for the last 20 years and I was proud to call him a friend. Chad became a pillar in this community through his grassroots activism and community partnerships all throughout the area,” said Salem Lakes Trustee Bill Hopkins

Before I officially announced my candidacy for district attorney, Chad was one of the first people I confided in. He expressed his frustration with the current DA’s office for failing to prosecute certain crimes, and it was clear to me that he was deeply committed to making a difference. When I told him I was running, his response was one of genuine enthusiasm, and he immediately offered his support in any way possible. That encouragement meant a great deal to me.

But beyond his personal support, Chad had always been dedicated to bettering our community. He played an instrumental role in raising funds for the Trevor Wilmot Grade School courtyard and was been involved in numerous other charitable efforts in the community. His generosity, compassion, and unwavering commitment to helping others were evident in everything he did. I will deeply miss Chad’s boundless energy and his passion for life. He had a way of inspiring those around him with his enthusiasm and dedication to making a positive impact. His passing is a devastating loss, and my heart is heavy knowing he is no longer with us. The world is a little dimmer without his light.

His earthly journey reached its gentle conclusion on November 7, 2024, leaving behind a legacy etched in kindness and boundless generosity.

Chad’s ardor for life was unmistakable. A virtuoso on the greens and the snowy slopes, his love for golf and skiing mirrored the joy he exuded in every endeavor he undertook. Chad’s love for Junior Golf was unparalleled, and his passion for instructing young golfers left an indelible mark on countless lives in the area. He was a true kid at heart, finding joy and fulfillment in mentoring and sharing his expertise with the next generation of golf enthusiasts.

A graduate from the University of Wisconsin-Parkside, his entrepreneurial spirit flourished as the proprietor of the renowned Wilmot Stage Stop, a haven where laughter and friendships were effortlessly woven into its timeworn fabric. Alongside his cherished partner, Ali, Chad cultivated a sanctuary where culinary delights and warm hospitality intertwined seamlessly.

The sanctum of Chad’s heart was vast, where ceaseless acts of kindness flowed like a gentle stream. His unwavering belief in providing a voice to the voiceless and a beacon of hope to those in need resonated deeply within all who knew him. His undeniable impact through philanthropic endeavors remains an eternal testament to his compassionate spirit.

In the radiant tapestry of Chad’s existence, his affection for his loyal canine companions, Charley, Tucker, and Belle, painted vivid hues of joy and companionship. Taking them on a “snifari” was the best time of his day.

In the days ahead, we shall gather in remembrance and reflection of a life lived with unwavering passion and benevolence. A luminous soul that graced our lives, Chad Charles Cantwell shall forever dwell in the hallowed chambers of our hearts – a beacon of light and love amidst the shadows of sorrow.

Chad leaves behind a tapestry of cherished memories in the hearts he touched. He is survived by the love of his life and “better half”, Ali Marchel; in the tender embrace of his mother, Judy Cantwell; grandmother, Laura Walker; his brothers, Craig (Kelly) Cantwell, Christopher (Monica) Cantwell, Cian Cantwell, Kyle (Rebecca) Schaufel; ten nieces and nephews that completely adored and cherished him, Colin, Tyler, Kaileigh, Elliotte, Carter, Raylan, Riley, Charley, Ophelia, Jace; his adoring canine companions, Tucker and Belle; other relatives and dear friends too numerous to mention.

Chad now joins the Lord in Heaven alongside his father, Cliff, and his faithful canine, Charley.”
