KENOSHA, Wis. – A Kenosha man accused of assaulting a woman and forcing her back into his apartment while she screamed for help was taken back into custody Wednesday after prosecutors added a felony charge to his case.

Nicolas A. Lopez Rubi, 47, originally posted $650 statutory bail and was released from custody following his arrest. But when the Kenosha County District Attorney’s Office added a charge of felony false imprisonment, Court Commissioner William Michel II raised his bail to $4,000 cash and ordered him back into custody. His preliminary hearing is scheduled for Aug. 1.

Assistant District Attorney Toni Young asked the court to increase Lopez Rubi’s bond to $5,000, citing the serious nature of the false imprisonment charge.
“Anytime you have a victim that runs out of her residence naked in fear of the defendant, the situation has to be fairly bad,” Young told the court. “While these are allegations at this time, he does admit that he tried to lead her back in the house by placing his hand behind her head. Again, she was nude when she ran from his presence with only a towel on her body.”
Young also requested that Lopez Rubi have no contact with the woman, her residence, or her place of employment. “She’s indicated that she absolutely does not want contact with him,” Young said.
Lopez Rubi is now charged with false imprisonment, battery, and disorderly conduct—each as acts of domestic abuse. The charges stem from a disturbing incident reported early Tuesday morning at Lopez Rubi’s apartment on 50th Street.
According to the criminal complaint, a neighbor heard what sounded like a man beating a woman and captured part of the confrontation on her Ring camera. Responding Kenosha police officers found Lopez Rubi in the hallway. He initially gave a false apartment number but eventually admitted to living in the unit where the incident occurred.
The woman involved, identified in the complaint by initials, was located nearby, naked and wrapped in a blanket. She told officers she had driven Lopez Rubi home after he drank several beers at her residence, but once inside his apartment, he locked the doors, ripped off her clothes, slammed her into a wall multiple times, and dragged her by the hair when she tried to escape. Ring footage reportedly shows him forcing her back into the apartment after a struggle in the hallway.
The woman ultimately escaped and flagged down a squad car. Officers documented visible injuries, and surveillance video supported her account.
The case is being prosecuted by the Kenosha County District Attorney’s Office. Lopez Rubi remains in custody pending the upcoming court date—unless he posts the $1,350 needed to satisfy the cash bail differential.
