DA Solis Obtains Guilty Verdict in Kenosha Bank Robbery Trial

KENOSHA, Wis. — A Kenosha County jury has found Javail Terry Winston guilty of robbing a local bank, ending a two-day trial marked by extensive testimony, surveillance evidence, and prior criminal history.

Winston, 66, was convicted Wednesday afternoon of robbing the BMO Harris Bank at 4235 52nd Street in Kenosha on February 2, 2024. Prosecutors said Winston entered the bank wearing a mask, handed a teller a threatening note demanding cash, and fled with $2,258.

The jury returned its guilty verdict at 2:59 p.m. on Aug. 6, after beginning deliberations just over an hour earlier. Winston, who did not testify in his own defense, had his bond revoked following the verdict and is now awaiting sentencing. He faces up to 40 years in the Wisconsin prison system.

“This verdict reaffirms our commitment to protecting our community from dangerous repeat offenders,” said Kenosha County District Attorney Xavier Solis, who personally prosecuted the case. “The buck stops here in Kenosha County. We will not tolerate violent criminals who repeatedly prey on our institutions, businesses, and citizens.”

During the trial, jurors viewed surveillance footage from the bank and surrounding businesses, which prosecutors said showed Winston fleeing the scene and driving away in a distinctive orange Dodge Nitro registered to him. The same vehicle had been seen entering Racine shortly after the robbery.

Police recovered video footage from multiple nearby locations, tracked Winston’s vehicle using license plate recognition software, and ultimately located it at his wife’s residence in Racine. Detectives said the vehicle matched the one seen near the bank at the time of the robbery, and that Winston had previously been convicted of a similar crime 20 years ago in Illinois.

Testimony from Winston’s cousin, Doyle Winston, contradicted the defendant’s alibi. Doyle told police that no one visited his house on the day of the robbery and that Winston had not contacted him.

Officers also noted that Winston’s physical appearance and clothing matched the suspect in surveillance images, including gray sweatpants with markings on the left leg, and that he walked with a noticeable limp from a recent knee surgery.

Solis extended his thanks to the Kenosha Police Department, Mount Pleasant Police, and other investigators.

“Their diligent investigative work was instrumental in securing this conviction,” Solis said. “We are proud to work alongside such dedicated law enforcement professionals. I also want to thank the jury for their time and service to our community.”

Winston will return to Kenosha County Circuit Court for sentencing on October 27 at 3:00 p.m. before Judge Anthony Milisauskas.

      1. Well there are some articles that he is resigning or leaving. One of the two is questionable. She obviously is very left now with her “fan base” and out there

      2. Since Kevin arrived, he has become the individual responsible for exposing the misconduct that others attempted to conceal. Numerous corrupt officials have been reported, investigated, and subsequently convicted as a result of these actions. The Kenosha County Eyeball is orchestrated by an individual with a history of substance abuse, who, together with others possessing questionable interests, is attempting to silence Kevin. This reprehensible campaign is being conducted by a person of compromised character and followed by Ted Kmiec, etc.

  1. Never will be.
Yet I’ve heard there are Facebook pages ALL OVER Bashing everyone for everything !
Yet these Facebook Cowboys don’t come to meetings. Don’t run for office. Town, Village, Schools or County Boards !!!
But they think they can complain and someone ELSE will do something about “their” issue.

Facebook is not a place to create meaningful change. Sure you can shame people. Falsely accuse people of things. Get uninformed people to join you in bashing others. But if you want real change, get physically involved by showing up !
