KENOSHA, Wis. — Emergency responders were called to a home on the city’s south side Tuesday afternoon after reports of a child injured by a gunshot.
The incident occurred around 1:35 p.m. Initial reports suggested the child had been struck by a bullet, but authorities later determined the injury was not a gunshot. Instead, the child’s hand was pinched by the slide of a firearm that had discharged, according to investigators.
To prevent any appearance of impropriety, the Kenosha Police Department asked the Kenosha County Sheriff’s Office to take over the investigation because the injured child is the son of a high-ranking Kenosha police officer.
In a statement released Tuesday, the Sheriff’s Office said:
“On 08/19/2025, the Kenosha Police Department contacted the Kenosha County Sheriff’s Office and requested assistance with an incident involving a member of the Kenosha Police Department. A minor injury was reported. To ensure transparency, the Kenosha County Sheriff’s Office will be the investigating agency. The investigation is currently active, and no further information will be released at this time.”
According to sources familiar with the case, no criminal charges are expected. The child sustained only minor injuries in what appears to have been an accident that could have resulted in far more serious harm. A law enforcement insider told KCE the gun was in a locked safe and the child found a way in.
Kenosha County Eye is not naming the officer involved.

The information posted was due to disparaging remarks people made about the seller and accusations of corruption against others. The owner of the property is public information available to the public easily found on our county website or google search. This person was defended by me even though I have no knowledge of the owner. The owner has done nothing illegal from public records or now in the sale of their home.

Any citizen would have guns confiscated and arrested for negligence of a child or child endangerment. Social Service nightmare. Court’s, needing Attorney, possibly the child removed from the home. KPD- the first thing you learn in crime scenes is not to gather and talk and laugh on the scene of a crime. Time and time again we see your officers do this behavior. This is extremely hurtful to the families that you are serving.
I know I was one of them and you had the parade of officers from the upper management to the officers go through my house and take a look at my deceased family member. Please learn that you do not need to be out on the lawn, in someone’s driveway or in their house to gather. All of the shift officers simply do not need to be there.
I was thinking the same thing. Don’t these Officer have a job to do other than gawking, gossiping? Good old boys club gathering? Pull over some of these maniac drivers everywhere in the city. Excellent display of the supervision of these Officers and their management. The police need to be policed.

Personally, I couldn’t care less to find out the officer’s name IF he or she is being treated like an average resident when an incident like this occurs. However, this investigation reeks of preferential treatment. In fairness, it would be interesting to see how the Kenosha Police Department has handled similar incidents to this one involving non-officers. If charges haven’t been filed against non-officers in the past, then I agree with the KPD’s decision in this case. If so, that’s an unacceptable double standard.
