KENOSHA, Wis. — Roosevelt Elementary fourth grader Michael Stanley has been named the winner of Kenosha County’s annual Alcohol, Tobacco and Other Drugs (ATOD) Slogan Contest with his entry: “Staying Drug-Free is My Responsibility.” His words will serve as the theme for the county’s 2025–26 prevention efforts, appearing on posters, essays, and student projects across the district.
The campaign launches during Red Ribbon Week, Oct. 19–25, the nation’s longest-running drug prevention initiative. Locally, the week will begin with a 9 a.m. kickoff assembly on Oct. 20 at Roosevelt Elementary, featuring student performances and guest speakers. KUSD Superintendent Dr. Jeff Weiss said the winning slogan highlights the role young people play in making healthy choices.
Red Ribbon Week began nationally in 1985 in memory of DEA Agent Enrique “Kiki” Camarena, whose death inspired students and families to wear red ribbons as a pledge to live drug-free. Today, it is observed in schools and communities across the country. In Kenosha, schools also take part in essay, poster, and scholarship contests sponsored by the Greater Kenosha Community ATOD Awareness Committee.
Roosevelt, which has served local families for nearly a century and is a past National Blue Ribbon Award school, will host this year’s kickoff, continuing its long tradition of student leadership and community involvement in prevention.

KCE, thanks for posting this. It is good to hear that the youth in our city will be made aware of illegal drugs and the damage it does to them.
