KENOSHA, Wis. — Kenosha residents will once again be able to drop off brush, branches and compostable materials beginning Monday, April 6, when the city’s Compost/Brush Drop-Off Site reopens for the season.
The site, located at 4071 88th Ave., will operate from 8 a.m. to 6 p.m. Monday through Saturday, excluding holidays. The service is available only to City of Kenosha residents and is free of charge, although residents must provide identification showing proof of residency.
Commercial dumping and contractor disposal will not be accepted at the site.
Residents may bring compostable materials, brush and branches to the site from April through November. Compostables may be dropped off in city-approved biodegradable bags or clean containers, but all debris must be removed before disposal.
The city said it turns the collected material into high-grade compost, which is later made available to residents at no cost.
Brush and branches do not need to be bundled for drop-off. The city will accept materials up to 6 inches in diameter and 12 feet in length, with no weight limit.
The city’s curbside compostable collection program will begin April 27 and continue through June 5.
City officials reminded residents that it is against city ordinance to rake or dump grass clippings, leaves or other compostable materials into streets, alleys, sidewalks, parks or waterways.
Residents seeking curbside pickup of bundled brush and branches may schedule collection from May through November by calling the Department of Public Works at 262-653-4050 at least 24 hours before their regular garbage day. Bundles must be cut into 3-foot lengths, tied with string or twine and weigh no more than 40 pounds.
