Kenosha, Wis. — The Kenosha Unified School District Board of Education is set to vote tonight on a resolution that would formally declare non-public areas of KUSD schools as “safe spaces” for students and families fearful of immigration enforcement actions.

The proposed measure comes in response to ongoing concerns from parents and community groups about the potential for U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) agents or cooperating law enforcement to enter school grounds in search of non-citizens. Under the resolution, unless a valid judicial warrant is presented, the district would protest such enforcement efforts “to the fullest extent permitted by the law.”

The resolution points to the landmark 1982 U.S. Supreme Court decision in Plyler v. Doe, which held that public schools cannot deny children access to education based on immigration status, emphasizing the harm it would cause both to the children and society at large. It also cites KUSD’s existing Board Policy 5110.1, which prohibits discrimination based on national origin, immigration status, or other protected characteristics.

“There is no written state or federal law mandating that any school district assist in the enforcement of immigration laws,” the resolution states, reinforcing the district’s stance that educational settings must not be disrupted by immigration enforcement actions.

If adopted, the resolution would compel the Superintendent to take several specific steps:

  • Follow current procedures to ensure students have emergency care or child services support if their parents or guardians are detained by immigration authorities.
  • Develop internal guidelines within 30 days for school staff to follow if ICE or other cooperating law enforcement arrives unannounced.
  • Collaborate over the next 90 days with organizations including the League of United Latin American Citizens (LULAC) Councils 320 and 339, Forward Latino, legal service providers, and social services to provide resources and support to affected students and families.

.

District leaders noted that parents and students have increasingly expressed “fear and confusion” about sending children to school due to concerns over immigration enforcement activities. They also stressed that bullying or discrimination based on immigration status harms students’ feelings of safety, belonging, and academic success.

The Board of Education is scheduled to vote on the resolution during tonight’s meeting. If passed, it would be formally adopted as of April 29, 2025.

  1. Ohhhh this is going to be interesting, another way to make schools safe is to stop hiring creeps and do background checks!!! Just my two cents…..,

    28
    2
  2. They harbor illegal aliens, and pedophiles. Shut them all down then. It couldn’t hurt. Public schools make kids dumb purposely. It’s nothing but indoctrination, and attempted child rape…regularly.

    24
    4
  3. I would suggest ICE stay out of schools. It’s safer for everyone to arrest the whole family where they live.

    7
    6
  4. I suspect, given the boards past poor decisions this will pass with all but 1 or 2 votes. If they were smart, they’d abstain. The schools are public schools, so how are they defining “public” spaces? Also, the high schools have school resource officers (SRO’s) which are KPD employees and not employed by KUSD.
Is the cafeteria, commons, gym outside sports fields “public”. How will staff be protected from any possible litigation when found harboring an illegal immigrant? I don’t believe school policies supercede Federal mandates?

    18
    1
  5. Of course this dirty and disgusting school district is going to worry about the immigrants before the pedophiles they have lurking around our children. The schools are full of nasty pedos but they sweep that under the rug because their all friends Nasty scums

    19
    1
  6. There doesn’t seem to be a limit to the incompetence in this county. Remember the Martell case, where an undocumented student tried to gain citizenship by falsely accusing his classmate, U.S. citizen Martell, of rape? The staff of the former DA were gullible enough to believe the story.
Sometimes I wonder if they actually prefer not having federal agents around, so that all the problematic individuals—like teachers under the influence or those grooming children—can continue their activities without interference.
Needless to say, the local resource officers can’t even manage to find a loaded weapon.

    16
    2
  7. This is absurd. How about stop involving yourself in political issues and do you F$%KING JOB! Stick to the mission, this is SCHOOL, a place to learn, and you are failing right now at that!!!

    19
    3
  8. So, this KUSD School Board and Administration, having created a Budget catastrophe, lowered test scores, and fostered a breeding ground for perverts and groomers within the employee ranks, views THIS as the priority?

First, as a taxpayer, I ask exactly what constitutes a non-public area within KUSD that these people think should be off limits to Law Enforcement or taxpayers? The School Board and Jeffrey Weiss do not own KUSD property. Under no circumstance should a penny of our tax dollars go towards sanctioned evasion of Federal Immigration Law and Enforcement.

Second, if the School Board and upper Administration intend to follow through on this, I would expect Jeffrey Weiss, the Seven Members of the School Board, and any Senior member of KUSD Leadership supporting this to PERSONALLY stand in the doorway and make themselves subject to appropriate arrest and consequences. Don’t be cowards and make some Asst. Principal take the fall for your lawlessness. The people who REALLY care about the kids of Kenosha would love to see each of you perp walked in orange jumpsuits.

Third, in truth, the people of Kenosha have only themselves to blame for this. You just put the retarded Rebecca Stevens, and the pervert Carl Bryan back on the School Board over two highly qualified, serious, and high character candidates who would be working on fixing the KUSD….rather than fulfilling some childish Marxist fantasies toward creating policy to degrade our culture.

As much as we all want to believe that the School Board, Senior ESC Leadership, and the KEA care about our city and our children….they do not. Filling their own pockets and pushing their crazy liberal ideology will always come first…..until the people of Kenosha wake up and root these cancers out.

    41

    1. Perfect. I agree 100% on all counts. “Former KUSD teacher”, I can easily picture you as having moved on due to disgust with the work environment and what you were required to “teach”. I was a volunteer tutor in the past but will not return; I am conflicted between helping kids who need it and refusing to promote the veiled indoctrination in the curriculum.

      3
      1
  9. Sorry son but your parents broke the law. As democrats always told us “No one is above the law”. You need to go home. Fix your own country, this one is a mess created by democrats.

    12
    3
  10. Kids are graduating with honors that can’t read or write proficiently, but this is what is priority. Fools.

    14
    2
      1. I don’t think you understand…”can’t read or write, still graduate with honors”. Thank a teacher for what?! They read out of a communist book to the kids. It’s called indoctrination.

  11. I’m so glad I voted against the referendum! This school board is a joke! Woke idiots ruining this school system. I used to be an educational assistant years ago and I could see the deterioration of KUSD and our union never did anything for us, just take our dues! Disgusting!

  12. This is irrational: “the landmark 1982 U.S. Supreme Court decision in Plyler v. Doe, which held that public schools cannot deny children access to education based on immigration status, emphasizing the harm it would cause both to the children and society at large. ” Trying to equate removal for illegal entry with “denial of education” is illogical at best. The fact that anyone would even use this as an argument shows a complete lack of critical thinking skills. Just as irrational: “There is no written state or federal law mandating that any school district assist in the enforcement of immigration laws,” In other words, there is no law requiring that any school district must follow the law. So they think they are exempt from following the laws?

    2
    2
    1. Twisting rulings and laws, gaslighting. Start with simple premise. If they have broken the law by coming here they have no rights

      6
      1
      1. The problem is that entering the US without the proper documentation isn’t illegal and therefore not a criminal act. That needs to change ASAP to shut the left the fuck up.

  13. Entering the United States Illegally is a crime its in violation of federal laws or CFR ‘s. To knowingly harbor or conceal an Illegal is also a violation of federal law. The immigration act is very clear on this. It appears that the KSD board are putting their liberal necks on the line here. If the board members via their vote is giving tasid permission to the schools and employees under directive to commit a felonious act , therefore making the teacher, teacher aid or whomever the lighting rod for possible federal charges that will come of it. It also paves the way for the DOJ via the Department of Education to cut funding to the school district for violating federal mandates.
But then again I have never known a socialist to think beyond the fall out for their actions. Truly if the members of the KSD board want to act in a manner that is unlawful they are doing so at their own peril. Or better yet move 6 miles south to the Peoples Republic of Illinois and be welcomed by Comrade Pritzker and his socialist followers.

  14. Once again KUSD is breaking federal law. Everyone involved in protecting illegal aliens needs to be arrested, beginning with Weiss and the entire School board.

    2
    2
  15. KUSD taxpayers.
Please. No worries about illegals, KUSD has your back.
Oops, I meant wallet. YOU get to pay for this liberal folley.
    It takes a village!

  16. Please ask KUSD how many tens of millions are spent in KUSD each year for “English language learners” employees.
These jobs are an unnecessary tax burden on all of us. Cut those jobs, instant budget surplus. No referendum needed.

    1. Nope. They just go after anyone speaking I’ll of isreal. We are an occupied nation. Free speech is dead. They are the Synagogue of Satan.

  17. This stupid shit right here is one of the reasons I voted against the increase to KUSD. Another meeting voting on how we can further waste the tax payers $ pushing our woke extremist agenda. News flash for any of you who feel in fear for your safety/ life. If you are a US citizen and are Mexican or any other nationality, you have absolutely nothing to be afraid of. Go on living your life. The boogie man is not coming to get you. If you are here legally from another country, you have nothing to be afraid of. If you are here illegally and the KUSD is harboring you there, well then the KUSD administration and school board members should be subject to arrest. They arrested 2 judges already. You think you are going to get away with obstructing the Feds. I hope you do this way when you are thrown in jail, there will be more seats open and hopefully they will get filled by people with a brain in their head. KUSD, the place where people who can’t do anything else go to work.

  18. And somehow, Kenosha keeps voting these liberal bastards onto the school board, even when there are much better candidates running. We all know what b**** initiated this particular movement.

  19. So, according to the resolution, entire families may congregate in classrooms and other designated spaces. How do we think that will work out? Talk about disrupting education and making students feel unsafe. Consider an MS-13 or TDA banger (or groups of them) taking refuge in a classroom. Now what? This has disaster and tragedy written all over it.
