KENOSHA, Wis. – A Kenosha County Jail inmate already facing felony charges for a previous cell block assault has been charged again—this time for allegedly striking a different inmate in another altercation inside the jail.
Kristina Faith Sargeant, 28, appeared in court Thursday to face six new counts stemming from a July 2 incident. The charges include felony battery by prisoner, disorderly conduct, and four counts of violating state or county jail rules. Although she remains in custody on her earlier case, Commissioner William Michel set cash bail at $5,000 for the new file—though the amount is effectively moot due to her existing confinement.
According to the criminal complaint, Sargeant was captured on surveillance footage in the N-block of the Kenosha County Jail’s Pre-Trial Facility arguing with another inmate outside a cell. The footage reportedly shows Sargeant striking the woman on the left side of her face. A third inmate quickly stepped in to break up the confrontation.
Deputies say Sargeant admitted to slapping the inmate with an open hand, claiming she was upset over what she described as ongoing issues in the housing unit. The alleged victim told authorities the strike was actually a closed-fist punch and said it caused immediate pain and a headache.
The witness who intervened stated she did not see the actual strike, but confirmed the argument was escalating and loud.
This is the second time in under three weeks that Sargeant has been charged with physically attacking another inmate. On June 14, she was accused of punching a different woman in the face and trying to stop her from reporting the incident to jailers. In that earlier case, Sargeant faces 12 counts, including felony intimidation of a victim and battery by prisoner. Her preliminary hearing in that matter is scheduled for June 25.
The new complaint notes that Sargeant’s July 2 conduct was a repeat violation of jail rules and highlights her prior pending battery case as aggravating context.
If convicted of the new charges, Sargeant faces over six additional years in prison. Her prelim is scheduled for July 11.
