KENOSHA COUNTY, Wis. – A Trevor man is facing his fourth drunk driving charge after crashing his motorcycle in Wheatland and allegedly trying to avoid police involvement.
Joseph M. Freitag, 45, appeared in court Monday, July 7, where he was formally charged with operating a motor vehicle while under the influence—fourth offense, a Class H felony. Court Commissioner William Michel II set Freitag’s cash bail at $3,500. As of Tuesday afternoon, jail records indicated that he remained in custody. A preliminary hearing is scheduled for July 15.
According to the criminal complaint, Kenosha County sheriff’s deputies were dispatched around 9:52 p.m. on Saturday, July 5, to the 3400 block of 328th Avenue for a report of a single-motorcycle crash. A caller reported that a man, later identified as Freitag, had approached him on foot, admitted to crashing his motorcycle, and asked for a ride—while also requesting the caller not contact 911. The caller declined and called authorities.
Deputies and rescue personnel found Freitag lying in a roadside ditch in the 3500 block of County Highway W. Freitag allegedly admitted to driving the motorcycle and stated he had been drinking. He claimed he lost control of the bike, which ended up in a ditch on the east side of the roadway. He also admitted that he did not have a valid motorcycle endorsement.
Deputy Leyden reported several signs of intoxication, including slurred and slowed speech, glassy and bloodshot eyes, a strong odor of alcohol, and difficulty balancing. Freitag refused field sobriety testing and did not consent to a blood draw. A sample was later taken at Froedtert South Hospital under implied consent procedures. While in custody, Freitag reportedly repeated to himself, “I’m sorry,” while rubbing a tattoo on his arm.
According to the complaint, Freitag has three prior OWI convictions: one in 2005 and another in 2008, both in Kenosha County, and a third in 2017 in Racine County. The current offense, if convicted, carries a maximum sentence of six years in prison, a $10,000 fine, and a minimum of 60 days in jail.

His son Isaac is following in his fathers footsteps. Look him up.
Isaac’s just fine so you keep Isaac right out of your mouth please and joe is a
good guy hard-working dude
Just fine eh??? Isaac Freitag ?? The known Drug Dealer still driving all around Kenosha Co, not supposed to be driving at all. Nearly killed a husband and wife in a MVA while HIGH on drugs and out on bond for crashing his car with drugs and a gun loaded in his possession. Kids headed to prison sooner than later… I’d put $10.000 on it. Wait until the lights come on behind him this time. I’d bet he try to flee and elude. PFFFFFFFFT
Does it really matter what kind of guy he is, and how hard he works, but he spends the money on alcohol and then operates motor vehicles over and over again? If you’ve been caught four times over that span of the years you probably done it 400 times.
Username 😉 Correct and if he tried to run from a single crash you’d bet he’d run from a injury or death crash too….Sober the f&^k up….
