BRISTOL, Wis. – A 30-year-old Bristol man is facing eight criminal charges after sheriff’s deputies responded to a domestic disturbance Monday and discovered a woman with visible injuries and a baby with a head injury.
Antonio Franklin Munoz-Southerland was charged Wednesday in Kenosha County Circuit Court with felony victim intimidation, strangulation and suffocation, physical abuse of a child, and five additional domestic abuse-related offenses, including battery and disorderly conduct. Court Commissioner William Michel II ordered a $10,000 cash bail. A preliminary hearing is scheduled for July 22.
According to the criminal complaint, deputies were called to the 19900 block of 128th Street around midday on July 14 after a witness saw a man push a woman who was holding a baby. The woman, identified by her initials in the complaint, was found with redness and a scratch on her face and arm. She told deputies that Munoz-Southerland had hit and strangled her in their bedroom after an argument over her children from another relationship. During the altercation, he allegedly threw their infant son onto the bed with such force that the child bounced and struck his head on the wall.
The woman reported that Munoz-Southerland got on top of her, pressed his forearm into her neck, and punched her repeatedly in the face. She said she could not breathe for several seconds and feared she might lose consciousness. She also accused him of grabbing her phone to prevent her from calling for help and trying to force her back inside when she attempted to flee the residence and seek help from neighbors.
Deputies reported the baby had a noticeable bump on his head and was taken to the hospital with his mother.
The complaint also outlines a previous incident on June 27, in which Munoz-Southerland allegedly punched the woman in the face with a water bottle in hand, smashed her phone, and threatened her with a large kitchen knife, saying, “I could stab you.” The woman did not report the earlier assault at the time, telling investigators she was afraid of what he might do.
Munoz-Southerland allegedly admitted to deputies that he and the woman had pushed each other but downplayed the seriousness, calling it a “dumb dispute.”
If convicted on all counts, Munoz-Southerland faces multiple years in prison, including up to 10 years for the intimidation charge alone. He remains in custody as of Wednesday afternoon.
