PLEASANT PRAIRIE, Wis. — A 22-year-old Kenosha woman is facing felony charges after police say she caused a disturbance at Froedtert Pleasant Prairie Hospital over the weekend, kicked a nurse in the face, and had to be restrained by emergency staff and officers.
Madison Maliyah Phillips was charged Monday in Kenosha County Circuit Court with felony battery to a health care provider, misdemeanor bail jumping, and disorderly conduct. The charges stem from an incident on Saturday, July 19, when Pleasant Prairie police were dispatched to the hospital following a panic alarm triggered in the emergency room.
According to the criminal complaint, Phillips had been transported to the ER by ambulance. Upon arrival, she began screaming profanities at hospital staff and refused to comply with basic procedures, allegedly yelling, “F*** you, b****, I’m not laying on no motherf***ing dirty ass sheet.” When staff told her she was free to leave if she didn’t want care, Phillips walked to the waiting room but continued shouting in front of patients and children.
Nurses attempted to calm her down, but the situation escalated when Phillips demanded access to a phone inside the ER reception area and began yanking on the windows and banging on the glass. She then tried to force her way back into the secure area of the emergency department.
When a registered nurse attempted to block her reentry and told her she could only return if she calmed down, Phillips allegedly pushed him and tried to swing at both him and another staff member. As staff attempted to restrain her, Phillips reportedly kicked the nurse in the face and scratched his arm. He sustained visible injuries to his cheek and arm that required treatment.
The nurse, who was working at the time in full uniform with his ID badge visible, told police he did not consent to being struck and that the injuries caused him pain. Police documented redness and scratches on his arm and face, and he was treated at the hospital where he works.
At the time of the incident, Phillips was already out on bond for a misdemeanor case filed in April. She had been ordered by Commissioner William Michel II not to commit any new crimes. That case remains pending.
After her arrest on Saturday, Phillips was brought to the intake courtroom the following day but began screaming and behaving disruptively in court. Commissioner Michel ordered a temporary cash bail of $5,000. She is due back in court for an adjourned initial appearance on July 25.
