(Kenosha County Sheriff)
BRISTOL, Wis. — A 53-year-old Milwaukee man is facing a litany of felony charges after sheriff’s deputies say they found a loaded handgun, armor-piercing bullets, fentanyl, cocaine and ecstasy during a traffic stop last Friday in the Village of Bristol.
Greg Hemphill was charged Thursday with seven criminal counts, including possession of a firearm by a felon, possession with intent to deliver fentanyl and cocaine, and carrying a concealed weapon—all as a repeat offender and second or subsequent drug offender.
According to the criminal complaint, a Kenosha County Sheriff’s deputy pulled over a blue Honda CRV around 6 p.m. on July 25 after noticing the driver and passenger weren’t wearing seat belts and that the temporary paper license plate was flapping in the wind and unreadable. The vehicle, driven by Hemphill, initially failed to pull over before stopping on the inside shoulder of I-94.
The deputy reported smelling marijuana as he approached the vehicle. After determining Hemphill was on probation for a felony firearm conviction, deputies searched the SUV and discovered a 9mm Taurus handgun loaded with 11 full metal jacket rounds—one of which was a green-tipped SS106 light steel penetrator, a type of armor-piercing ammunition.
Additional contraband included a 1.75 ml bottle of Tito’s vodka under the driver’s seat, 2.04 grams of cocaine, 3.58 grams of ecstasy, and 4.86 grams of fentanyl hidden between the back seats. Some of the ammunition was found inside Hemphill’s size 12 Jordan sneakers located in the back of the vehicle. When shown the shoes, Hemphill admitted they were his but denied knowing about the ammo or any of the drugs.
Deputies also seized three cell phones, a leather vest with a “Night Owls” motorcycle club patch, and the expired Illinois drive-away permit found on the car’s window. The vehicle was registered to Hemphill but had suspended plates.
Hemphill has prior felony convictions for firearm possession, cocaine distribution, and substantial battery. If convicted on all charges, enhanced by his status as a repeater and second-time drug offender, he faces decades in prison.
Court Commissioner William Michel II ordered a $50,000 cash bail. A preliminary hearing is scheduled for August 6.
