KENOSHA, Wis. — A three-vehicle crash late Thursday night left a 16-year-old girl shaken and a Kenosha man in custody on suspicion of impaired driving.
The collision happened around 10:35 p.m. at the intersection of 39th Avenue and 18th Street. According to a female witness who was driving nearby, a westbound car ran a stop sign and slammed into a minivan, which then struck the teenager’s sedan that was stopped at the intersection.

The witness told KCE that moments earlier, she had been waiting at a red light at Wood Road when the suspect’s vehicle pulled up behind her and began honking its horn. “The light was red. As soon as the light turned green he passed me and started speeding west. He was swerving — I figured he was drunk or high,” she said. “I watched him slam into the minivan which then hit the 16-year-old girl’s car. I was so angry. I planned on chasing the dude down if he tried to leave the scene.”
The girl’s parents arrived on scene quickly after being notified through the Life360 app that their daughter had been in a crash.
Online jail records show that 22-year-old Zachary Hunter Lenfestey was booked just after midnight on referred charges of causing injury while operating while under the influence (first offense) and failing to stop for a stop sign. He was released from the Kenosha County Jail at 10:38 a.m. Friday morning after serving a “12-hour hold.”
Lenfestey is expected to be formally charged in the coming weeks. The top charge carries a maximum penalty of 1 year in jail and a $2,000 fine.
Kenosha County sheriff’s deputies were the first to arrive and investigated with the help of Kenosha police.
No major injuries were immediately reported, but officials have not yet released details on the conditions of the drivers involved.
