KENOSHA, Wis. – City officials announced today that they intend to step up enforcement of longstanding rules that prohibit businesses and individuals from placing signs in public right-of-ways without permission.
A press release from the City of Kenosha stressed that such signs are not only illegal under municipal ordinance but also create safety hazards and visual clutter along city streets. The release stated that enforcement efforts will now include the removal of unauthorized signs and the potential for fines against violators.
City leaders said the initiative is intended to promote fairness for businesses that comply with the law and to ensure that public spaces remain clean and free from private advertising. “The proliferation of unauthorized signage undermines the integrity of our regulatory framework and diminishes the city’s appearance,” the press release noted.

The issue is not new. Former Alderman David Mau previously championed tougher enforcement of the ordinance after residents raised concerns about the growing number of unpermitted signs across Kenosha. Mau brought the matter before the Public Works Committee last year, highlighting what he described as a lack of accountability in enforcement.

Two local businesses have been identified in past records as repeat offenders: Scott Metzefeld of Wash Me Windows and Samantha Kofroth of Maid Absolutely Clean. According to prior reporting, both have placed hundreds of signs throughout the city over the years without obtaining the required permission.

The city said the new focus on enforcement will help level the playing field for all business owners while improving the community’s overall appearance.

About time you think?
Mau brought the matter before the Public Works Committee last year, highlighting what he described as a lack of accountability in enforcement.
They refused to listen to Mau due to the difference in ideology. Mau wasn’t woke enough or not a relative of a politician in town.
Old saying goes, ” You don’t want to be a politician, you want to own one.”
Good, this includes the “street preacher” and all his junk he leaves out at the intersection.
Repeat offenses should result in their business licenses being revoked.
it does look trashy. So it fits well in Kenosha.
Great!
Now let’s end billboards in Kenosha.
Billboards are a sign you live in a low rent shithole city.
