KENOSHA, Wis. — Students and staff returning to Tremper High School this week are encountering altered traffic patterns, temporary classroom relocations, and sections of the building closed off following significant water damage caused by a roof leak.
School officials said the issue began after heavy rainfall last weekend, followed by freezing temperatures that caused the water to expand within the roof. As temperatures rose and snow melted in the days that followed, water seeped into multiple areas of the building, affecting hallways, classrooms, and office spaces.
The most heavily impacted area is the south end of the second-floor east wing, commonly referred to as “2 East.” Water damage was reported in the hallway, Office 203, Room 205, and Room 207. Additional damage extended to the lower level, impacting Office 107 and the staff lounge.
The roof leak has since been repaired, but restoration work is ongoing. Crews from a restoration company are currently working inside the building, using dehumidifiers and industrial fans to dry out affected areas. Large plastic barriers have been installed to contain the work zones and control temperature and humidity levels during the drying process.
As a result, some classes have been temporarily relocated. Classes previously held in Room 205 have been moved to Room 222, while those from Room 207 are now being held in Room 226. These adjustments are expected to remain in place while repairs continue over the coming days and weeks.
Despite the visible changes, school officials say the building remains safe for students and staff. Adjusted traffic patterns have been implemented to help students navigate around the affected areas efficiently.
