KENOSHA COUNTY, Wis. — Residents whose private wells may have been affected by recent flooding along the Fox River and in other parts of Kenosha County can now receive free well-testing services through Kenosha County Public Health.
County officials announced Monday that residents in flooded areas are encouraged to pick up test kits at several municipal buildings and government offices throughout the county. The program is aimed at ensuring drinking water remains safe after floodwaters may have contaminated private wells.
Health Officer Ricky Ferrari Traner said residents should take extra precautions if floodwater covered their well casing.
“With the flood waters possibly going into your well, we’d like to make sure you have safe water,” Ferrari Traner said. “If the floodwater went over your well casing, you should also sanitize your well before testing.”
Test kits are available during normal business hours at the Kenosha County Center in Bristol, along with village and town halls in Bristol, Paddock Lake, Pleasant Prairie, Randall, Salem Lakes, Somers, Twin Lakes and Wheatland.
Samples will be collected at all locations Tuesday through Thursday this week and Monday through Thursday next week.
County officials are also directing residents to online resources for instructions on well testing, sanitizing wells and protecting drinking water supplies following flooding.
Additional flood preparedness information is also available through Kenosha County.
