WADSWORTH, Ill. — An off-duty Kenosha County Sheriff’s deputy is being credited with quick thinking that may have prevented a devastating house fire from turning deadly early Saturday morning in Wadsworth, Illinois.

According to a report published by Lake and McHenry County Scanner, the fire broke out around 1:40 a.m. in the 39000 block of Mauser Drive. Authorities said the off-duty deputy spotted the fire and immediately called 911, helping first responders arrive before the blaze spread into the home.
The deputy has since been identified as Kenosha County Sheriff’s Deputy Doris Carroll, who was hired by the sheriff’s office on March 31, 2003.

Lake County Sheriff’s Office Chief Christopher Covelli told the publication that the deputy’s quick actions, combined with the rapid response from Lake County deputies, allowed occupants inside the home to be awakened and safely evacuated before the fire intensified.
The Newport Township Fire Protection District responded to the scene and found a fire involving a wood pile near the garage and several vehicles, according to the report. Fire officials said three vehicles sustained moderate to heavy damage while the home itself suffered siding damage.
No injuries were reported among residents or emergency personnel, and all occupants were later able to safely return to the residence, fire officials said. The cause of the fire remains under investigation.

Well done, officer!
Well done, officer. Perhaps renting out multiple rooms in your home to multiple different people isn’t always the best idea.
