PLEASANT PRAIRIE, Wis. — A Pleasant Prairie police officer may have saved a man’s life early Friday morning after responding to a welfare check and finding the man unresponsive and without a detectable pulse inside a residence on Old Green Bay Road.
Pleasant Prairie police were dispatched to a home in the 11200 block of Old Green Bay Road at about 12:14 a.m. Friday after a roommate reported that a man inside the residence appeared highly intoxicated and was behaving erratically. The caller reportedly told police he was concerned for the man’s well-being and no longer felt safe because of his behavior.
When Officer Lee arrived, he reportedly located the man inside a bedroom sitting in a lawn chair and appearing to be asleep. According to prosecutors, the officer attempted to wake him by shaking him and performing a sternum rub, but the man allegedly did not respond.
Officer Lee then reportedly checked for a pulse and could not find one. He immediately requested an ambulance and physically carried the man from the bedroom into the living room floor.
After being moved, the man allegedly began breathing again and started moaning. Police also reported detecting a strong odor of intoxicants coming from him.

Pleasant Prairie Police Chief David Selvidge praised the officer’s response in a statement to Kenosha County Eye.
“The department does believe Officer Lee’s actions were potentially lifesaving,” Selvidge said. “Based on the information available, Officer Lee responded quickly, remained calm under pressure, and took decisive action to help protect the individual involved and everyone else at the scene.”
Selvidge, who recently became the department’s chief, said the incident reflects the type of training and professionalism the department expects from its officers.
“Our personnel are trained to respond to emergency situations with compassion, sound judgment, and a focus on public safety, and this incident is an example of those principles in action,” Selvidge said.
The chief also said he was “absolutely proud” of Officer Lee’s actions during the call, adding that the officer demonstrated “courage, professionalism, and a commitment to serving the community during a difficult situation.”
