SALEM LAKES, Wis. — Women who enjoy singing are being invited to join the Riverport Chorus this summer as the award-winning vocal group opens its rehearsals to guest singers at a temporary location in Salem Lakes. The chorus will meet Monday evenings through Aug. 31 at Westosha Lakes Church while its regular rehearsal venue undergoes renovations.
According to a June 7 press release, guests will have the opportunity to sing alongside chorus members from 7 p.m. to 9 p.m., learning four-part a cappella harmony and rehearsing both new songs and familiar favorites. The organization said no previous choral experience or music-reading ability is required. Riverport Chorus will provide learning materials to help participants learn their vocal parts.
“We welcome women of all ages to participate,” said Riverport Chorus Director Laurel Peterson. “Previous choral experience or the ability to read music is not required.”
Those who attend multiple rehearsals may have the opportunity to perform patriotic selections during an Honor Flight reception on Aug. 30 at Milwaukee Mitchell International Airport. Participants may also perform during the chorus’ fall Cabaret Show scheduled for Sept. 20 at Kenosha’s Parkway Chateau.
The chorus is temporarily relocating because renovations are being completed at Wilmot Union High School, where the group normally rehearses. Riverport Chorus Team Leader Julie Quesenberry said the group expects to return to the high school after summer construction is completed.
The summer guest program is free. Rehearsals will be held at Westosha Lakes Church, 24823 74th Street in Salem Lakes, across from the Westosha Central High School athletic complex.
Riverport Chorus is a chapter of the Sweet Adelines International and celebrated its 60th anniversary in 2024. The group was named the Region 3 Sweet Adelines Audience Choice Award winner in both 2025 and 2026. Directed by Peterson, the chorus typically rehearses Monday evenings at Wilmot Union High School and welcomes guests year-round.
