KENOSHA, Wis. — Elderly and disabled residents at Harborside Commons Senior Apartment Homes, a facility managed by Coachlight Communities LLC, say they have been stranded in their homes for nearly two weeks after the building's sole elevator failed, while allegations of bed bug infestations continue to circulate among residents and former residents. Family members and residents told Kenosha County Eye that despite repeated complaints, neither Coachlight Communities, the City of Kenosha, the Kenosha Fire Department, nor Mayor David Bogdala's administration have done anything to address what they describe as a serious and ongoing health and safety concern.

Mayor don’t care about disabled
Unless they want to build data centers.
Yeah the data center will be built and I hope everybody stands up and recalls the mayor and whoever supported
David Bogdala mostly ex mayor after next election
The mayor dont care unless there is a major photo opportunity to have.all i see from him is himself injecting into every news media interviews. If he isn’t going to be on a state or national level he doesn’t care.
He is as useless a mayor as a grey rock. Recall or vote out! Picture time, kids!!
(From the Story)
KCE has also contacted Mayor David Bogdala, the City of Kenosha, and the Kenosha Fire Department. “Residents and family members have specifically questioned why a senior living facility housing elderly and disabled tenants was allegedly allowed to remain without elevator service for nearly two weeks” …..
…. “and why no meaningful action appears to have been taken”
CAN ANYONE EXPLAIN WHY ANY BUILDING THAT HAS NEED OF AN ELEVATOR ONLY HAS ONE ?!?!?
This is a failure of the city and the people who write the building codes and or allow changes to it to allow this building to be built with ONLY 1 ELEVATOR in the FIRST PLACE !!!!!
HOW FUCKING STUPID IS IT TO ALLOW ANY BUILDING OF THIS SIZE AND OR DESIGNED FOR SENIORS TO BE BUILT WITH JUST ONE ELEVATOR ?!?!?
Did the Fire Department sign off on this original building decision ?
WHO allows this ??
This is more than a failure of an elevator. This is a failure of the city and the people who run it.
It’s a little late in the game but going forward the city should pay upfront for a second elevator to be installed ASAP in this building and then assess a special assessment for its cost to the building owners to be paid back over 20 years.
The city fucked up allowing it in the first place and now should assist the owners to fix it.
Does something like that even go before the city to begin with? Or just inspections? Was this assisted living from the start or was it transformed from its original purpose? I have no idea so please inform the rest of us since you seem so knowledgeable.
Many other communities require two elevators.
How can you even ask the question ?
I say money under the table.
Maybe because asking the question is far superior then just assuming that you know the answer? Even though you decided not to share your guess with us.
Assisted living or not, it’s dangerous to have only one elevator for 89 apartments. Fire trap!
From Google AI
“Standard Minimum Guidelines by Property TypeMulti-Family Residential: A minimum of 1 elevator per 90 to 100 units is standard. Buildings 4 or more stories usually require at least one gurney/stretcher-sized elevator.Commercial & Office: One elevator is generally required per 50,000 square feet. If the building has 4 or more floors, a service elevator becomes necessary for logistics.Healthcare Facilities: Multi-story facilities require a minimum of 2 passenger elevators, with additional elevators dictated by bed count (e.g., +1 elevator per 100 beds).Hotels: Minimum of 1 elevator per 75 to 80 rooms. Additionally, a service elevator is recommended for every 2 passenger elevators”

But minimums are just that, Minimums !
Nobody is stopping the architects and owners or the City from adding more.
It just doesn’t make sense to not have a back up.
In so many things in life you always have a back up item, tool or people.
Are buildings built to certain sizes to get under code restrictions ? You bet. This is just one example.
Thanks for sharing that information 👍🏼
100%!!
Good old boys club!

Heard about this about year ago as well from a disabled veteran from same place. Other seniors that live off 80th routinely have mold/water leak issues.
All these Corporations that manage semi-government housing have some kind of political connections because nothing ever happens. Antioch Illinois has few as well that have Section Eight and Government Managed Apartments. The Seniors/Elderly routinely get notifications to fix issues, but if you are near Section Eight, you can get a “Contact High” and nothing happens to them.
This is a tragedy in the making…god forbid there’s a building emergency and they all need to get out. I know elevators aren’t used in case of fire…but who builds a high rise with folks that handicapped?!!! WTH
I have a close relative that lives there who has been saying the elevators do not work, and the city was notified several ti es by several people.
The Fire Department and neighborhood services/inspections should be over there tonight for an inspection.
If a wheelchair bound resident is one the upper floors, how do they evacuate in an emergency- the balcony?
Neighborhood services would be all over your house if a gutter was hanging, or a few paint chips- how about we protect these vulnerable adults?
BIG SHOCKER…..one of the big huge buildings the city wanted built downtown is a shithole. DIDN’T SEE THAT COMING!
The bed bug issue has also been going on for sometime now.

Someone should reach out to the state DHFS and APS. Involve both the state representative and state senator from that district to help facilitate the complaints.
These are vulnerable seniors who are being neglected and financially exploited. It’s bigger than the city.
Looks like a dump!
