KENOSHA, Wis. — Leadership Kenosha has extended the application deadline for its upcoming 2026-2027 cohort and is encouraging local residents interested in developing their leadership skills to apply by July 1. The community-based program, operated through the Kenosha Area Chamber of Commerce, also is seeking project proposals from local nonprofit organizations with unmet needs.
According to organizers, Leadership Kenosha is designed to connect participants with local leaders, organizations, and community issues while helping them build professional networks and strengthen leadership abilities. The program focuses on skills such as conflict management, communication, relationship building, problem-solving, and inclusive leadership.
A key component of the program involves participants working in teams on projects benefiting nonprofit organizations throughout Kenosha County. Organizers say the projects provide hands-on opportunities to address community needs while developing teamwork and leadership experience.
Recent projects included efforts to increase volunteer recruitment and retention for Habitat for Humanity of Racine and Kenosha Counties, create a volunteer engagement plan for Hope Council, develop a community garden project plan for the Shalom Center, and design a marketing and fundraising strategy for The Sharing Center.
Leadership Kenosha is currently accepting project proposals from nonprofit organizations interested in partnering with the program. Proposals must be submitted by Aug. 1.
The program has been operated by the Kenosha Area Chamber of Commerce for more than 25 years and is conducted in partnership with the University of Wisconsin-Parkside and community leaders. Organizers say the program is intended to help both emerging and established leaders become more engaged in civic and community affairs.
Leadership Kenosha recently celebrated the graduation of its 2025-2026 class at Circa on Seventh. During the event, Sabrina Morgan, a 2019 Leadership Kenosha graduate and Promise & SC Johnson STEM Scholars Program Coordinator at Gateway Technical College, was recognized as the program’s Distinguished Alumni Award recipient. Organizers cited her work supporting youth education and her involvement with organizations including the Mahone Foundation, the Education Foundation of Kenosha, the UW-Parkside Foundation Board, and the UW-Parkside Alumni Association.
Individuals interested in joining the 2026-2027 Leadership Kenosha cohort can apply through July 1, while nonprofit organizations interested in submitting project proposals have until Aug. 1 to do so.
