I guarantee the ones complaining don’t even frequent the library.
Where will the homeless drug addicts pee? Its ok, they’ll just pee on the steps and bushes.
Sorry to hear about the loss. But when an officer dies do they close the police department. When somebody worked at City Hall dies do they close the whole entire city hall. When somebody works in the parks department they close the parks department. It’s a long-term employee works at the hospital do they close. Totally wrong call
Shut the fuck up. You unhappy swine
It was out of sign of respect. Sorry you are mad that fucking Burger King won’t be closing when you die.
The place is paid for by taxpayers- shouldn’t close.
AcKtUaLLy…
when an officer is fallen they close the roads with a giant procession of police vehicles, so the answer to your question is yes. We as humans need to show more respect. A life was lost and we are upset at those trying to honor it?
Be better.
to the downvotes: I’m sorry you’re upset just because no one will show at your funerals.
Sorry to hear about the loss but why why why why would you close the libraries. You wouldn’t close the fire department. You wouldn’t close the Parks Department. You wouldn’t close Police Department. You wouldn’t close the hospital. You wouldn’t close a bank.
Comparing the library to the fire department and police department is diabolical
You’re comparing emergency services to a library.
No one is suffering from a library being closed.
What a lovely gesture for a lovely human. Well done.
It’s got nothing to do with a gesture of humanity it’s got to do with services to the taxpayers. Every other service is just as important as the library system
Regardless of the sympathy motive and “emotional health” of coworkers this director has no authority to give employees a paid day off just because !
A better choice would have been for each branch he may have worked at, if more than one, could set up a table and display of his favorite books and other items as a community tribute. Put up a 8×10 picture of him on a small table with a white table cloth and a candle or two. Then a few of the books he liked to read.
Then just let people stop and look at it and pay their respects. Leave it up for a month and move on.
Anybody see the POW / MIA Table at Culver’s in Pleasant Prairie ? The Culver’s there by the interstate west of the Rec Plex on Q/104th street ?
A solitary table with a white table cloth and a flag and a few other items. I’ve been there a few times and I watch to see the adults and children stop and look.
Sometimes the parents explain it and sometimes they don’t. But the meaning is the same.
Just stop to remember.
This Director needs to be suspended unpaid equal to the amount of money it cost to pay all these employees. The idea of thinking of this person was fine. The execution was wrong.
Well let’s compare it to other employees in other departments. Obviously when somebody inspections dies unexpectedly that department should be shut down. Or somebody in the Clerk’s Office. Or when a long-term employee in the courthouse passed away they should close the whole entire Courthouse. Unfortunately services are still needed so should we close the doctor’s office. Or should we close the parts department on 4th of July.
Just things to think about
I can see shutting down for a funeral itself but not the day after. You just eliminated services for taxpayers.
I thought about this but my husband just reminded me when a Transit director died unexpectedly. He was the head of all bus line they sure didn’t shut down the buses. There’s also the street car guy that everybody loved he died unexpectedly single guy. Didn’t shut down the street car even or the whole Transit Department.
More proof that in this day and age, there is absolutely no use for government funded libraries in cities. Small, rural libraries like in Northern Wisconsin, sure, but not in any metro area.
The people who use them in metro areas are just free-loaders. Absolutely a waste of money. DEFUND!
… that all Libraries should be closed.
True the people that run them are liberals and very partisan and worse are allowed to be by their overseers but, to have a place to go to get out of the house with your children to get off their tablets and TVs is a good thing.
Children need to be exposed and taught the art of reading and more so writing. What would be a better place to show children history and culture than letting them explore a bank of library shelves ?
We do need to get the Drag Queen shows out of them and any sexual presentations that might happen. Those sexual lessons and understandings of the wide gamut of orientations are to be learned at home or in high schools as elective classes approved by the parents.
Libraries should not be those places.
You people and your obsession with drag queens…
Sad news of an unexpected loss. People close to him should have been given time to mourn and allowed to take a bereavement day. Shutter the entire system?!?! Ridiculous.
Autopsy revealed he died of stale urine inhalation and germs from keyboards, knobs, furniture.
Did they shut down WIFI so individuals living outside the facilities lost their ability to watch porn there too?
It’s not like people are going to die or be harmed if the library is closed for a day to allow his coworkers a day to mourn and celebrate his life. As a taxpayer I’m actually OK with this. Compared to all the other useless waste of my taxpayers dollars this is really nothing and actually a good tribute to him for his many contributions to the library. I think the ones complaining are doing so because they are working a soul sucking job and would be replaced before their funeral with barely anyone even noticing. Which in reality is most people.
The people upset don’t even know what the inside of a library looks like except on the articles here.
They had to change the Dewey decimal to the Gooey decimal.
Library Park is a gross facility inside. But the new landscape looks wonderful. Money we… wel… well spent…
