SALEM LAKES, Wis. – After months of mounting public pressure, political controversy, and sharp criticism over her leadership style and policy initiatives, Village Administrator Cassandra Hiller has submitted her resignation. The Village Board accepted it effective September 8, 2025. Although her authority as village administrator ends on September 8th 2025, she will remain an employee and collect her paid time off until September 30th.

sooooooooooo no westend EMS initiative??
Lol nope
Maybe they will listen to the citizens this time. Time to turn the page. They should use the same group that didn’t pick Hiller, they obviously knew something. Good luck to her.
They did listen to the citizens. You people all voted these people in. Who are you kidding?
Who are you kidding, the citizens committee who interviewed all 5 candidates did NOT choose her, so no, they did not listen.
Calm down bro.
Snap.
Resigned
Betting at least on board member knew ot was coming.
Sara did. It’s scary that she’s the interim now they are two peas in a pod.
Holy crap, Sara is interim? Hold on to your butts Salem. You thought you couldn’t trust the last two admins…you’re on a whole new level of sleezy now.
Exactly. She’s not to be trusted AT ALL.
She — and the board that hired her — came on board with a lot of promise and potential. Begs the question of what the Hell happened?
Many of the board members drank the Cassandra Kool-Aid; send them packing. They waited too long. Think of all the nonsense that has to be undone. Wait for the budget, then the real anger will begin.
The failures of Cassandra Hiller do not include the terrible land swap of valuable Rock Lake wetlands for some land locked parcel adjacent to Runyard Park that will be more of a liability to the Village than a benefit! AND what happened to the Runyard pier that was neglected and then removed- depriving residents of a kayak access to the lake?
Hiller should be escorted out the door with police escort. Go ahead and pay her for the sick days but GET HER OUT! Perhaps the village can still undo the terrible wetlands land swap and replace the pier. These Hiller escapades belong in the list of her failures!
Time to rebuild our government. We need smart, common-sense people with a backbone. We have 2-3 board members who should lead; the rest need to move on. Time for new board members to step up. Those that protected Hiller need to go.
It’s time for the majority of the board to acknowledge their mistake with Cassandra Hiller without resorting to disparagement. It’s time to be truthful, admit it was the wrong decision, and focus on cleaning up the mess. Acting in the best interest of the taxpayers is crucial now. While much harm has been done, with a community willing to address the issues, solutions are possible. Time to Rebuild or at least a fresh start.
Let be honest. This board allowed her to soft leave instead of a hard leave. They have little to no back bone. When she mislead with the wetlands, I was done. Good Luck Hiller
I do believe we should get the water tested at the village hall before we hire anybody else.
Let’s hope the Board is more discerning going forward. The position of Village Admin needs a lot of careful thought.
One down with many more to go. Hopefully Rita will be next to resign following Hiller.
She gave it a good try, but running for President because of emotions is not what we need here.
This citizens committee that we hear of, who are these people? Sounds like some sort of special interest might be involved in the next Admin position.
Hardly a special interest group; if you paid more attention, you would know. It’s just easier to complain.
There is no special interest group. To the best of my knowledge an interview committee has not even been created yet to help choose the next administrator. The last committee was comprised of residents and business owners from our community which is exactly what this community wants – people from within the village in one form or the other helping to steer the village. Chill out – this is just Salem Lakes not Chicago.
THEY ARE ALL GETTING VOTED OUT ENOUGH!!!
I suppose you have people lined up to get on the ballot for the next election? If this is your mindset then nothing / nobody is ever going to make you happy. Please Mr or Mrs Anonymous- get on the ballot for the next election- maybe then you will be satisfied but I doubt it.
So true, don’t complain unless you’re ready to speak up through emails, in public, or make direct contact. Where I disagree is that you only need to be a taxpayer to have a valid point. Thinking you have to run for office to fix a problem is far from reality. Politicians always say the job is so hard, but it’s not really if you listen to the majority and carry out the wishes of the community.
Problems arise when someone you hire doesn’t work out. Fine, recognize the mistake and move on. When politicians defend their ridiculous decisions just to save face, that’s where new complaints arise within the community. It’s actually pretty simple. Good politicians lead through integrity and being honest with the public, good or bad, people respect that, whether they agree or not. Something that is lacking in Salem Lakes
Anyone who thinks they can make a difference and is willing to put the effort in, should run for office, it’s what makes a democracy.
Awesome news.
Next up: Rita. You have been a huge disappointment.
Go away before you hire another Illinois democrat!
I’m sure she already has a better job lined up.
Watch out tim
I can’t wait for the employees to reveal the truth about the queen—it’s coming. Mr. Mathewson should definitely do a special piece; the employees need their voices heard. Maybe he could create videos with voice changers and blurred faces. I’m so excited for this.
An exposé of the opposition would be amazing!
She be Gone!!!
Sorry not really complaining just seeking information on who these elite residents are that make up this committee for our next Administrator.
Seems everything is a big secret for a simple question. Somebody has to have the answers.
Rita came up with the citizens committee for additional input.
The committee that she selected was
Brian Filiatreault
Carol Husnik
Dean Hintzmsn
Bryan LaManna
Judy Grasser
Hintzman ain’t an elector.
Brian is the only qualified advisor
Both Brian’s are on the zoning commission and didn’t care for her at all. They both turned down the PUD as well with ticked off Hiller and I’m sure Rita
There’s only one Bryan on the Plan Commission; the other Brian serves on the EDC. Both are critical thinkers, in my opinion—and anyone who thinks otherwise clearly isn’t paying attention. They also served on the Advisory Committee for hiring the Administrator. If I recall correctly, neither Brian recommended her, largely due to her big-government mindset.
As you know, the committee as a whole didn’t choose Hiller, and that’s been discussed endlessly. I suppose they saw something the Board didn’t. The fact that Cassandra didn’t care for the two Brians probably has more to do with her complex over the fact that they didn’t choose me.
