SOMERS, Wis. — The Kenosha County Housing Task Force recently hosted a hands-on workshop designed to help local officials better understand the complexities of residential zoning and development.
Held Oct. 29 at the Somers Village/Town Hall, the session featured an interactive board game that simulated the competing priorities and constraints that municipalities face when planning new housing. The event was part of the Task Force’s ongoing effort to encourage more diverse and affordable housing options across the county.
Extension Kenosha County Community Development Educator Savannah Meyers led the workshop, while Becky Roberts from the University of Wisconsin–Stevens Point’s Center for Land Use Education facilitated the simulation and discussion.

Attendees included elected officials, plan commission members, and municipal staff from throughout Kenosha County, who worked together to balance growth, infrastructure, and community needs within the game.
Formed in late 2024 by the Kenosha Area Business Alliance and Kenosha County, the Housing Task Force brings together a broad range of stakeholders — from developers and real estate agents to nonprofit leaders, large employers, and financial experts — all focused on addressing the county’s growing housing challenges.

More information about the group’s initiatives and upcoming projects is available on the Kenosha County website at kenoshacountywi.gov/HousingTaskForce.
