SOMERS, Wis. — A 60-year-old man was found dead Thursday morning near the Canadian Pacific railroad tracks near Washington Road in Somers after what investigators believe was a tragic train-related incident.
According to the Kenosha County Sheriff’s Office, deputies were called to the area around 10:03 a.m. after a railroad worker discovered an unresponsive man near the tracks. Deputies and rescue personnel arrived and confirmed the man was deceased.
The man was identified as Kirk R. Sax, a 60-year-old white man.
Investigators believe Sax may have been struck by a moving train. Authorities said they are considering the possibility that he may have been attempting to board a moving train or fell between train cars.
Detectives with the Kenosha County Sheriff’s Office and personnel from the Kenosha County Medical Examiner’s Office responded to assist with the investigation.
Sheriff David Zoerner said in a statement that the agency’s thoughts are with Sax’s family.
“Any loss of life is tragic, and we extend our condolences as they navigate this heartbreaking situation,” Zoerner said.
Authorities said there is no evidence of criminal activity at this time, but the investigation remains ongoing.
