KENOSHA, Wis. — After suffering a serious injury in a recent accident at his home, 4-year-old Zechariah “Zech” Byles had one request during his recovery: he wanted to see the Kenosha County deputies who responded to his family’s emergency so he could thank each of them with a hug.

That heartfelt reunion recently took place as Deputy Lyyski, Deputy Gursky, Deputy Ali, Deputy Schuler, Deputy Stanek, and Sgt. Beckstrom visited Zech and his family. The deputies arrived bearing gifts, Sheriff’s Office memorabilia, and plenty of encouragement for the young boy as he continues his recovery.
A spokesman for the Kenosha County Sheriff’s Office said Zech’s courage and gratitude made a lasting impression on everyone involved.

“Zechariah’s courage, gratitude, and positive spirit left a lasting impression on all of us. Our deputies were honored to be there for him and his family during their time of need. It was even more meaningful to return, see his smile, and let him know that his Sheriff’s Office family will continue cheering him on throughout his recovery.”

According to the Sheriff’s Office, the visit quickly turned into more than a simple reunion. Although Zech was initially shy, he soon warmed up to his visitors. Before the gathering ended, Zech and his sisters convinced the deputies to try catching one of the family’s chickens. Deputy Schuler successfully caught one, providing what the Sheriff’s Office described as one of the day’s biggest laughs.
The Sheriff’s Office also praised the Byles family, describing them as kind, caring, and remarkably positive despite the difficult circumstances. Officials said the family’s strength and close bond were evident throughout the visit.

The Sheriff’s Office concluded by wishing Zech continued success in his recovery, saying his determination has already inspired those who have met him and that deputies will continue cheering him on every step of the way.
