KENOSHA, Wis. — Everyone saw this coming. Apparently, Kenosha County Court Commissioner Daniel “Catch & Release” Kellum did not. On Thursday, Kellum lived up to his nickname and released 36-year-old Krystyna M. Rogers without requiring her to pay a penny, even though she was already facing 10 criminal charges in four open cases, including six felony bail-jumping counts and more than 41 years behind bars. The logic behind repeatedly releasing someone accused of repeatedly violating previous releases was difficult enough to understand Thursday. By Friday, it looked even worse. Prosecutors filed yet another felony case against Rogers, alleging that just hours after Kellum let her walk out of custody, she again violated her bond conditions. This time she picked up four more felony bail-jumping charges, each carrying up to six years in prison. Rogers is now facing 14 charges across five criminal cases, including a staggering 10 felony bail-jumping counts, with a combined maximum of 65 years and three months of incarceration. Kellum’s catch-and-release experiment lasted only a matter of hours.
